Brick & mortar record store database - Page 5

^^^ The Love Garden is excellent. I have a few more from Texas to add.

Waterloo Records - Austin, Texas

A classic Austin record store that has been around forever, (in two different locations) and has a great collection of records and CDs. This is my favorite record store. There is a lot of people working there all the time, and they really enjoy helping you find whatever you need.

Cheapo Records
- Austin, Texas

As the name implies, you can get some pretty good deals at Cheapo. Its a huge store, but it really has more CDs than I would like. However, it has a good selection of Jazz records. The new material seems to be mostly overpriced, so I only buy used here.

Antone's Records - Austin, Texas

The companion to Antone's, (a great blues live music venue downtown), this is another record store I frequently visit. It has a great selection of local music, and it is mostly vinyl. Highly recommended.

Hope this all is helpful.

Redscroll Records - Wallingford, CT

Great source for underground music. They have a small selection of jazz and a decent Used section. But if you are looking for your favorite indie rock, metal, punk, noise or hardcore band's record it is the best place to go.

There's a used record store south of Broad Ripple which I will post when I remember the name.
I would love to hear some others.

Here's a link to the website I remember now.

Would anyone happen to know any good stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that are plentiful in electronic music and/or the obscure side of independent labels and artists?

CD Alley - Chapel Hill, NC - New & Used CDs, Vinyl, & DVDs
I visited my friend at college and remembered walking into that place.
Inside, it looks like that one record store in Half Baked that the white guy works at

Rochester, NY
The Bop Shop
Located in the Village Gate, a place to visit in its own right, the Bop Shop is run by a guy who apparently helped set up one of the Record Archive stores (the good one on Mt. Hope). He's a great guy to talk with and it's a smaller, easy store to navigate. Condition of all the vinyl appears to be quite good and he seems to almost know everything he's got on hand. Easily my favorite in town now, they seem to specialize in used vinyl but they also have new vinyl and new and used CDs.

Record Archive
A well known, widely advertised shop in the Rochester area. Used to have two stores but closed the better one IMO (Mt. Hope) and have now closed the second store and moved to a new location which I have not been to yet. Generally they have new and used CDs and the same for vinyl, quite a bit of used but in mixed condition.

The House of Guitars
I've never been here and most people don't seem to regard it highly, nevertheless it is on my "to-do" list. They sell vinyl and CDs and guitars and a whole lot more.

x2 for those in Dallas.

Good Records is my favorite place in town. Plus, they have listening stations set up around the store where you can plug in your own cans and check out the lateset music. The integrated CD players aren't great, but hey, kinda cool.

Good Records also hosts all kinds of cool listening parties and get-togethers, in addition to live concerts they host in the store. Cool spot. Plus the new store on Lower Greenville rocks the house and is much bigger than the old store near Deep Ellum.

Check out Good Records on Lower Greenville. A good bet for indie labels.

As far as electronic music, it might be my favorite musical genre (the classical music of the digital age, IMHO). But I end up finding most of my electronic music on internet radio stations and ordering online. (GrooveSalad, XM Chill, etc).

RRRecords in Lowell, MA is my favorite record store ever. If you're ever in the area, you must check it out. The guy that owns the store (Ron) has been running it single-handedly for the last 20 years or so, and he also runs the in-house experimental/noise label of the same name. Awesome store, good prices on used records, and more experimental that you'd know what to do with. Ask him to play you some noise. Buy the Kanin Krusete recycled tape from him.

CD Central in Lexington, KY. Of course, also deals with records.

Denver, CO - Twist & Shout records

Great selection of vinyl and CD's. Good place to browse around and discover new things -- they have a big used area and a lot of local music. There's also a whole room dedicated to hip-hop/rap/dance vinyl (if you're into that sort of thing). It's also located right on Colfax Ave. near other interesting stores -- The Tattered Cover, one of the best independent bookstores in the country, is right next door.
