K1000 OMG!!

Just my two cents here. Got my k1000 today even though they weren't supposed to be here until Wed!!! Fed-Ex made a special effort to get them here before Christmas. THANKS!!!

Well I have had a Sa-5000, 650 w/ Cardas, Headphile HF-1 w/ bloodwood and recabling and have E4P/S.

The K1000 owns all those cans easily.

The design is amazing and I love how you can open up the soundstage by moving the speakers closer or farther away on the hinges.

Musically they just do it all better than anything I have heard before. They truly compare to a decent monitor stereo setup and when you add a sub? WHOA..

I am running mine w/ a Maxxed PPA w/ variable bass boost by Doobooloo(designed to run the 501s initially)whom deserves some props here b/c the amp pushes these hard to run cans LOUD. Seriously if I turn it up they sing so clear it's like having speakers. The amp does need some modding to give it better flexibility w/ different music so I can raise and lower the warmth/bass more. We think the op amps are 627/637s and Larry from Headphile says the only way to get a ppa to push the k1000 is to have diamond buffers. (fyi larry's PPA has the 627/637s w/ blackgates, diamond buffers and bass boost too.)

I am seriously considering buying a spare pair it sucks they have been discontinued.

Where do you get em?

I saw one go for $550 on ebay the other day... A steal IMHO.

Too bad I dont have enough amplification to do those justice.

Congrats on your new purchase hope you enjoy them. Just an FYI I don't know if I would bother getting a spare pair I'm sure AKG will keep the parts on hand for a long time to make any repairs.

Hey, since I've owned the K-1000's, I have had trouble going back to standard headphones. The sense of open space and clarity is addicting. The comfort level is light years beyond any on-the-ear headphone. If you set the headphones down to walk around the room, the sound levels are high enough so that you can still follow the music. And I had thought my Grado 325's were the best cans for female vocals until I heard the K-1000 - the purity of tone combined with the sense of real live air is mesmerizing. Congrats!

truly a Christmas Miracle. Fed Ex showing up 4 days early and my PPA being up to the task. Now to start tweaking....

LOL, $550 is a steal for them nowadays.

Yep, I still have mine, and won't part with them unless AKG creates a superior successor to the K1000's.

Just gotta love that box, and the look of the headphones themselves... that's one can that gets me drooling when I see it, and I bet it would even more upon hearing it (except I don't have a decent speaker amp, or really powerful headamp).

These are electrostats, right?
I know nothing about these types of headphones...
Could you possible post a review as compared to youre other previously owned dynamic style headphones?
Pics would be great too.
I know im demanding alot here, but give us broke folk something to hope for!

I'm guessing my balanced home has enough juice (in balanced mode) to do a decent job? I can't get past 9 o'clock on low gain with my 650's...

I'd think so, especially since your amp has high gain setting. They were remarkably difficult cans to drive when I tried them out at meets (I was using them through 1/4" jack on my Reference). Then again, all full-sized AKG cans I've tried to date have been rather difficult cans to drive, including K271s, which I used to use portably.
