I thought it would be fun to see how many members here are Eagle Scouts.

JBLoudG20: Eagle Scout on 2/20/2001, Bronze Palm in August 2001 (I'll have to look up the date)

is an eagel scout like a grown up boy scout or something?

What do Eagle scouts do exactly?

Eagle Scout is the higest rank you can achive in Boy Scouts. If memory serves, less than 1% of boys enrolled in scouts make Eagle. It is quite an accomplishment, and shows focus and determination.

It was many years ago that I was in scouts. Personally, I made it to Life Scout (one rank below Eagle), turned 16, and kind of petered out.

i'm an eagle scout and all that jazz... it's overrated, one of those things people automatically think highly of without really knowing what it means

I would hardly call yourself an Eagle then. A real Eagle knows the amount of time and dedication it takes to reach that level of accomplishment. I'd never refer to one of my life's greatest achievements as 'overrated'.

I'm not trying to offend, but I took serious offense to your comment.

What trials does one have to pass to become an Eagle Scout? Just curious.

No secret stuff, thats the requirements. The hardest part is usually the leadership project, and completing all the requirements before you turn 18. At age 18, you are no longer a scout, but can become an adult leader if you so choose.

I'm an eagle scout.

An eagle scout has to complete a Leadership project (usually a service project for the community), be a leader in the troop for close I think 18 monthes (6 for star, life, and eagle right?), and go through an exam/interview type thing that goes over the character, leadership, and of course knots !

It was very challenging to achieve, and means alot to me. Its not overrated in the least.

I made it to Life rank when I was about 16 and I was so close to getting eagle, but personal issue at the time destroyed any determination or willpower that I had at the time.

Also I was Senior Patrol Leader at the time and the Scoutmaster absolutley hated me, but he knew I was the only person in the troop that could be SPL so he just made me stay SPL for like 2 years and made my life as a scout a living hell in the process. The only reason I stay was because I was such good friends with so many people in my troop and I didin't want to let any of the younger kids down by just quitting. But needless to say once I turned 18 I left the troop. In the 3 years since then I have only gone back twice.

I am also an Eagle Scout

It does require a lot of time and work and I am very proud of the accomplishment. So many people have commented or talked about it when I put it on applications, work, college, etc. Not like it actually helped with any college apps.......I wasn't accepted to any other colleges except UW madison

i became an eagle in 1994, and got my bronze palm in 1995. i quit scouting soon after.

Eagle here... I got Life whe I was around 14, slacked off for a LOOONNNNGGGG time and couple months before my 18th I turned on the after burner and finished my Eagle project just a couple days before my 18th birthday.

I don't believe that only 1% of the boys entered got Eagle though. Our troop produces 3~5 Eagles a year, at least. But then again my troop had around 100 registered scouts.

Funny story, when I began dating my current girlfriend in 2001, I was a senior at the time., she was a sophmore. Obviously her parents didnt like the difference, but when she told them my name, her mother asked, "Isn't he an Eagle Scout?" (I think she read it in the paper) and when my girlfriend said yes, her mom said "Oh you can date him then"

Eagle Scout got me my girlfriend.

BSA statistics show it is indded less than 1% of all scouts. Some troops are just Eagle powerhouses. My troop has been producing many lately, but back in my day (hahah I'm so old now) there was a 6 year gap between Eagles until I made mine.
