Sorry to lift an old thread but how did you solve your problem?

I'm working on a new super regulator but I'm afraid even more expensive since the pcb is more advanced, 4-layer board.

It's all to do with the heatsink you use and the LM317/338 you use.
While proper heatsinking is of course required, particularly on the preregulator, the actual output limit is set by the constant current source that feeds into the base of the BJT. The opamp sucks current away from the base, so it can only lower the output. For a D44H11, h_fe is at least 40. In order to output 500mA you need the current source to deliver at least 500mA/40=12.5mA. Assuming a red led with 1.8V voltage drop and 0.7V V_BE drop, you'll need a resistor of 88ohm. For 3A output, the CCS needs to deliver 75mA, so R=15ohm. Leds with higher voltage drop (e.g., blue ~ 3V) can also be used to crank up the maximum output, of course.

It's been a while since I thought about these things, so I hope I didn't make any mistakes here.

You are pretty right but a blue LED will only create more losses. I think it's possible better to add a transistor and make a darlington connection or possibly use a mosfet.

A nice soul jackinnj has done some measurements with his Audio Precision. We are talking about nanoVolts! Used opamps were AD825, LT1028 and AD797 together with a LM329 voltage reference.

Is the SSR-01/SSR-02 the ultimate in regulation(that you offer) and is it exclusively for the audio band or can it be used for digital and clock supply also?

You can use it for digital circuits and they seems to be ultimate but I'm waiting for some more measurements like output impedance which I'll guess be equally good at least as the Jung/Didden version.

A kind person (jackinnj) has done some more measurements with his Audio Precision system. Notice the nanovolt scale!

Three pcb's are tested, Audiocom Invisus, Jung/Didden original and my own 4-layer pcb.

Did he went higher than 1kHz.
Would be interesting to see how they perform with higher frequenzies, like near the MHz region.
