My name is Ed, and I am a Night Owl / Insomniac.

I've been a night owl since college, (8 years ago) however as of a few weeks ago I'm tying to quit! The local Masters swim team only practices at 5:30 AM Mon/Wed/Fri so I kind of have to change ways since I joined up. Getting much less than 7 hours sleep and then swimming 4400 yards over the next 1.25 hours doesn't cut it. I've been working up to a 10:00 PM bedtime the night before a practice, by 12:00 AM on the other weekdays, and around 1:30 AM on weekends.

I used to hit bed between 4:00 and 5:00 on weekdays. Weekend nights were typically 6:00 AM and sometime as late as 8:00 - 9:00 AM. Obviously this was perfectly fine during college, and even with my office job I can sleep until 9:30 when necessary - I wasn't doing intense exercise so I didn't have to get more than 5 hours sleep (unless I wanted to be lucid for most of the day).

I used to be. I'd go to sleep around 0400 and wake up anywhere between 1200-1600. (homeschool and no job will do that for you) Then I got a job with a local electrician. Contractors are insane, just so you know. I had to be at work at 0700, which wasn't terrible (I got it down to a science: wake up at 0615, eat, leave at 0630), but it ruined my sleep schedule. I would retire around 2400 then. After that, I started slipping back into night mode, but then I got a job at Sears, and for awhile, during training, 0700 at work. Now I'm being put on the 1500-2100 shift, which is very nice. So I can stay up late again. YAY!

Personally, I do my best thinking and coding at night. Just not a morning person.

The sun's out and I'm walking around which proves that I am not a vampire. I'm just really tired.

LOL, were you in the military before?

Yeah, I'm just starting to get ready for bed now.

Its 5:30am and I'm still up. But in my defense, I'm actually still up for a good reason. I'm building my mother a new computer when I visit next week and I'm walking her through the parts purchase over the phone. To get her the best deal, I have to get the parts from 5 different sites. We've only got through one site so far... I think I'm going to be up for a while.

Going in. It's fairly close to ISO 8601, though. Just with trailing zeros.

I miss being a night owl. Did that through college.

Now, my motivation to go to bed is that otherwise I'll have a bad day at work (9 a.m.).

You mention, Ed, that you feel most creative at night. I thought I read once that many people are most creative in the very early morning (might be the same thing in your case).

Early morning seems to be my most creative time. Once the motor functions kick in, though, it's all downhill from there

I do seem to stay up late, it's 3:10AM here which isn't too bad when I'm at school but I'm at home right now and my mom usually wakes me up rather early (lol, around 10 AM) and so I have nothing to do during the day, it bores me to no end being that we're on dial-up and I have to wait intil the wee hours when nobody's going to call. I guess you could say my zombiefication came with the advent of internet forums.

I guess it is technically early morning, but I still consider it "nighttime" when the sun is not up.

Hmmmm. Looks like I'll be heading off to bed "early" tonight.

Maybe.

I'm a night owl though I usually fight it for work purposes. If I've got a couple weeks off, I'll pretty quickly be going to bed around 3-4am and sleeping till noon. My work schedule would actually permit me to do that if I wanted, but then I'd be working something like noon to 8 or 9pm, which I don't really want to do. I haven't got the insomnia issue though. If I get less than 7-8 hours of sleep a night, I'm wiped out all day. It sucks.
