if there is pressure on your ears that means the headband needs to be bent back. don't worry, it's a solid bar of metal, so go Hulk on it and bend it out! Make it so the cups just rest on your ears with enough tension nod to slip when you nod and you're good.

I love my HF-1's and will NEVER sell them. I think Grado's have an excellent sound presentation that works equally well for rock, jazz, and even some pop/electronic music.

You need to INVEST TIME (and money ) into pads. Personally I really enjoyed my SR-80's for months with the bowls, but after switching to the reversed HD414 pad I couldn't go back. They were simply too harsh/edgy. With my unbroken in HF-1's (with bowls) I immediately put the flats I purchased alone with them and fell in love. I tried switching back to my worn in bowls for the hell of it and came away with a unique perspective. If you want less bass and more highs (not nearly as harsh as the SR-80) go with the bowls (they are also great for comfort...which is VERY subjective. For me though, I would rather have a smoother (maybe slightly rolled off) high end and powerful bass, so I stick with the flats.

With all this being said, I don't think they have to be the best headphones simply because they are Grados...I just love the sound. I listening to some HD600's and was totally bored to death. People talk about a veil, to me it sounded like the blood of the music was taken away. I have to admit though...my fingers are about a half inch away from ordering some K601's. They sound too good to pass up.

Some people like A, some people like B. Others like the remaining 24 letters in the English alphabet!
