Any websites doing special introductory pricing on K701 still?

I wasn't really following the K701 when they first came out, but now that the hype has settled a bit and spending about 3 hours last night reading reviews, I think these will be the early Christmas present for myself.

Is Headroom or TTVJ doing special pricing on them anymore? Or has the $400 always been MSRP? Todd's site says to call but I won't be able to get on the phone with him until Tuesday, but I'd prefer to have these ordered before that since I'd like to spend some time with them/burn in (also I'll be sending them to my parents house, not my apartment)

Also any comments on how it will pair with a RSA SR-71 amp (with ipod as source)? I'm mainly looking for something a bit more laid back compared to the Grado, without being completely boring.

My K701 will be on my head tomorrow, and with 300 hours of burn-in on them, I think I'm pretty much set to go, although I do enjoy periodic listening, while in the break-in procces. I was told, and from what I've read here, that they are not as laid back as the upper Senns, but more so then the Grados.

As for as a xmas present to yourself.....AKG has said their next batch won't go out till end of January due to parts supply problems

Your best bet is to pick up some on the FS forums if they come up. That's how I got mine, and I'm glad - saved the wait until January...

It will pair VERY well with the sr71. iPod is ok too.

Although I ended up returning my K701s because I preferred the HD650 with my home setup (and couldn't justify keeping both), I preferred the more forward, crisper AKG sound with the iPod. That was using the SR71 too. I'd say it's a great trio.
