Recomendations of power cords under 50 bucks? From what I can tell either Vorlex 17604 or Iron Lung Jellyfish are the best.. anyone wanna add anything else? The Jellyfish are good for source and amp both?

id bet the best $50 power cord would be of your own build, wattgate connectors with some 12-14awg stranded or 18-20awg solid core copper wire. you wouldnt even have to solder the connections they are screw crimps.

Yeah, probably but I don't own any of the tools or wish to spend the time to do it right. That's why im looking for opinions. The only ones I know of are Quail, Vorlex and Jellyfish.

For what it's worth all you need to make your own power cord is a screw driver, a razorblade/wire stripper and 10 minutes.

heh, I just checked the stock cord that came with my headroom desktop power supply, it's already some Volex cord heh, some special "low current" cord, apparantly headroom has already found the best budget cord. That's both nice and disapointing hehe. Ah well still need somthing for my dac.

All the parts can be obtained at www.partsexpress.com

I've made two 12-gauge power cords (2ft and 7ft) for around $30 each. I also used nylon Techflex and heatshrink tubing for aesthetics.

VH Audio (www.vhaudio.com) power cables are very well regarded here and on Audio Asylum. I use them for my transport and amp with good results. Either the Flavor 1 or 3 is what you need, depending on whether or not your DAC has a chassis ground wire. They run over $100 assembled but can be purchased as a DIY kit for less than $50. Assembly is similar to what is described in my post above. There is also a good how-to on VH Audio's site.

Luckily, my Ack! dAck! runs on batteries, so I don't have to worry about no stinkin' power cords for it.

I used Belden 19364 cable to make my power cords like the Bob Crump recipe recommends but I used Marinco AC and IEC plugs instead of the recommended Schurter/Pass and Seymours because I think they're better plugs. To my ears they sound better than VH Flavor Ones at a fraction of the cost.

According to the thread below, Belden 19364 is what is used in the Volex 17604 premolded power cable that people rave about...

I may give the 19364/17604 a try. I'm a little ambivalent about the sound of the VH Audio Flavor 2 on my GS-1. I've been A/B comparing it to a generic 14/3 unshielded cable for the past two weeks. It sounds great with headphones, but when listening to my speakers (using the GS-1 as preamp), something just doesn't quite sound right while using it. The Flavor 2 seems to be adding a forwardness to the midrange and a little glare to the sound. The GS-1 has been on for two weeks straight, but the Flavor 2 may still need a little more burn-in.

DIY power cord would be the best choice with so low price.

The Iron Lung is identical to the original Quail group buy, except for the ferrites, but I use both on amp and source.

Signal Cable will meet that price point. High quality. VH Audio are excellent, but a little more expensive.

For low price the best will be the Quail cables, sturdy, 14awg, shielded, and came in black or gray, factory made, and hospital grade, for around 15-20 bucks not sure fi you cna go better....if it is true that Carol cable is really inexpensive, any decent plug will cost you that much.....

Okay I can't say that DIY is the best option but it sure is a very good one.

Cheapest HiFi power cords available here in Finland are something like 80EUR. Then there are those basic power cords which usually come with the equipment you buy. You probably have wider variety of power cords available in US but in Finland DIY is a very good choice.

Just for example take a look of this link. It's Supra Lorad 3x2.5 and 1M long. I don't know about the connectors. It'll cost 30-40EUR.

Just giving options here...
