Akg K400 - Page 11

Well, I'm Dutch, but can easily buy things from the German Ebay. And yes, I have bought some stuff there for other Headfi-ers.

Also a German Headfi-er did buy a item for me.

We are friendly people bigsmile_face.gif

I saw your K-400 go for about 45 Euro, which is a decent price. But usually you have to replace loose elastics.

Thats amazing, thanx for the information.

So do I just post that i want this phone on the wanted forum section, and hope for a reply?

Yes, that and PM Headfi-ers directly, me for example....

I have a German ebay address, it cost only a few Euro's (for the person who owns that address and for shipping the item from Germany to me, see: http://www.huifkar.de/p_tarieven.html).

I can send it you then. You only have to cover my costs.

But most of the times a German Ebay-er is willing to ship it directly to the Netherlands

Finding a German Headfi-er is of course a cheaper option.

IF you were referring to the one that just went on ebay.de I was the one who one it, however the seller was hesitant to ship to the US so I called off the transaction.  Keep a look out for it soon!

And another K500! I'm stockpiling for the winter.

Nice!  I loved my K500 w/ K400 drivers.  Really one of the best dynamics I've ever heard.  I think it spanked the HD800.  Probably not in terms of absolute soundstage size and detail retrieval, but it did very well in those respects while having much more realistic tone than the HD800.  It was amazing how it managed to have a gorgeous liquid warmth to it while being very airy and light at the same time.  I'm not sure I've ever heard that combination in a headphone before.  And I'm not sure I've ever heard a phone that had such a liquid sound esp in the midrange.  If only it had more bass...

Wouldn't that just be a K400?  The housing is basically identical between the two so I dont doubt it would make a change other than looks.  Between the two I find that I prefer the K500 which is more neutral and detailed.  The K400 are more forward and have a heavier influence on mids and more emphasis on vocals.  I find both of them outclass my DT880 250 in almost every respect.

How about a K501? Have you had a chance to listen to them?

I didn't, and I'm so curious about their sound.

Of course I've read about them, but listening is the real deal.

I have not heard to K501 but I expect they will also sound very nice.  I do plan to pick one up but I wanted to get the K400/500 first.  You have a nice looking amp, thats a beast of a tube on it!

If mine did just sound like a K400, then I found the K500 to be drier, with more treble and less gorge mids and the K501 to go further in that direction.  The K701 kind of went even further and then tonality got messed up in the process of the tweaking...

Just got a pair from German e-bay. Bach, Dionne Warwick and Zappa sound splendid all the same. Further listening ensues. [Edit: K400]

IMO, the K501 is the worst sounding of the stock K400, K401, K500, K501, and K601.  http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/255524/k400-vs-k500-vs-k501-vs-k-601

I have been having lots of fun still with my K400.  I purchased a new HD600 not too long ago which also great but having the two contrasting sound signatures make the K400's strengths more clear.  A clear, natural enveloping sound that is balanced.
