There is an option in the prefs of iTunes, under importing. It says "use error correction when reading audio CDs." Is this what you are talking about?

The micro dac sounds better out of the optical iRiver then the USB on the PC.

PC listening is still pretty good, but there is a noticeable difference, but after a after a few minutes I forget about the differences and Just enjoy the music.

What I heard was some compression almost sounding like small gaps in the frequency range out of the pc. The optical connectivity fills it out a lot more niely.

I didnt know why I was hearing what I was hearing, even when my EQ on win amp was turned off. It might very well be the 16 bit limit mentioned in this thread?

Gotta wait 4-7 working days on that optical cable. Didn't know I needed a Toslink-to-Mini cable, so the one I received today was just a standard optical cable. Bummer. Larry from Larocco Audio said the IRiver w/ optical out with Micro DAC was the best listen, too. Debating on whether or not to get an H140 but then I'd have to re-rip CD's. My whole PC library is encoded in 352 Atrac Plus, which is the Sony Codec for you amateurs out there. Heh-heh, just kidding. I've heard you can rip a CD straight into the IRiver using the optical out? By the way RnB180, read your review on the Micro Stack, which is what really made me want one of these to begin with. I'm sure the HeadRoom crossfeed would add even more to the spaciousness of the sound. I actually tried a Xinfeed adapter (mini crossfeed plug) out from the amplifier and it actually decreased the soundstage. Weird, works okay just with an amp, guess it just wasn't meant with a DAC in the mix.

How's the Micro DAC sound? Fast, slow, forward, laid-back?

I would say the dac is very anylitica, sometimes a bit dry but the dac introduces an increase in clairty. This IMO helps with the sound stage imaging very well. It synergizes very well with the micro amp. The micro amp by itself is a very warm amp, the micro DAC seems to clean up the sound and compliment the micro amp's warmth with a fresh dose of clarity. So far Ive only been doing most of my listening with the sennheisers. Very spot on synergy with sennheisers.

From what I heard it has good treble extension. You can hear the highs even through cheap computer speakers.

Two things I hear almost everytime from anyone who has auditioned my IRiver/MicroStack/HF-1 combination.

First - "Wow! You can hear every little detail...I've heard this song a hundred times and never heard that part before. Is this the same recording as the CD?"

Second - "The bass out of these headphones is amazing! I never knew headphones could go that low."

I tend to agree. Even after a month of getting used to this setup, it still amazes me.
