Zu gripe!

I just checked a couple of Zu cable auctions on E-Bay and they charge $30 international shipping. I have had cables shipped and the postage on the package is $5.

Is this blatant profiteering? I find that so annoying, it means shipping costs as much as the damn cable!!!!!!

Umm, if you're worried about "blatant profiteering", why are you buying expensive cables anyway?

$30 for International shipping is a great deal. The last package I sent to Moscow via UPS cost $175. Weight was less than 5 pounds.

Umm, because I want to. Thanks for a useful response.

That doesn't sound high to me either. International shipping is expensive!

Unless the Zu isn't packaged and can fit into an envelope, and then through the slot, and doesn't weight more than .5KG, then it can go as a letter. Otherwise its a package and the cost to EU is $$$.

..and it seems like the original poster is in Australia so $30 sounds about right. I'm sure they could send it by boat if you really want to save a few bucks but then you probably wouldn't see the cable till february.

For international shipments, I insist on shipping via a trackable, insurable method. That means EMS, Fedex, UPS, DHL, BAX global, et al, none of which are cheap. To EMS a cable, it costs about $20-25 worldwide, so you're getting "ripped off" by no more then $5-10.

Trackable, insured shipping is not only for the safety of the buyer, but for me as well (too many people in Asia and Europe scam US sellers by claiming they've never received their merchandise).

All I know is I have had packages sent to me from the US within a week that would eaily have fit a mini-rca cable well packed and the postage on the package was $5. I am pretty sure that was Global Priority Mail. Granted that may not allow full trackability but $30 postage = $42 Australian. That hurts at this end.
