Before you go, my experience of Bose. The cube speakers sound excellent in a friends small living room. They also sounded excellent in a pub where they were used for a weekly pub quize. I have also heard a demo in a shop and thought they sounded great.

My Sounddock is superb. For its size and convenience it works for me. If you have limited space and want someything unobtrusive that can still be heard at parties, it is excellent. I Like the dynamic and bass emphasis.

(Bear in mind I just like music, so I like the leaner sound of my AKGs, the fuller sound of my Senns and Goldrings. Anthing beyond a cheap tinny, thin, muddled sound of a mass market 'stereo')

I also liked the on and over ear headphones. But I did feel for the money the construction was not the best. Comparing them with Denon, Sony, the mad Dr Dres and Sennheiser brands in various shops the Bose were second to the Senns to my ear. I was looking for closed backed and in the end went for the Goldring NS1000s which I could get for £50, bargain.

Opening a Bose speaker is fun. My mom has a set of 2.2's.
The tweeter is just a small speaker like one they use in a portable fm transistor radio or small cb radio etc., and crossed over with a capacitor. No network, just a cap.
Theres nothing really in the box.
If they sold for $69 a pair, id say fine....but theyre like $200. Theyre the old equivalant to the 201's.
I dont like how they have special equipment behind the scenes hidden with the Wizard of Oz behind a wall.
Behind the 901's are a Crest 300w per ch amp and EQ set up, and they use special processed CDs and you cant hear your own.
At 1/3 the price, maybe they would be ok for some people....but not at current prices, and the hype over them makes me want to vomit.
I just hate that people think theyre the best.
If you buy something from Bose and say "Well i know theres better sound for $1000, but i needed small cubes to hide in the room for the wifey and a small unit for the player thats white and this just fit the bill, but i know what i bought and i bought it anyway",......That i can stand, because the consumer knew what it was and decided to buy it anyway.....His choice.

Decent products, but not the greatest value for money. Imo that is

Those rabid Bose fans are like, brainwashed or something, it is a little disturbing sometimes, maybe even Hitler disturbing, to hear how they suddenly have such loyalty and zeal when it comes to other headphones versus Bose. Not the least bit of curiosity to hear how things are different from one another, like they somehow know without actually knowing.
I tell them nothing, I only observe silently.
(I don't feel I used the right words to express myself. I hope it is understandable anyway.)

Ehhh...? Dude, make fun of Bose all you want, but it's sort of amusing that you'd talk about hypnotic, mind-controlling affects when you say a portable cable has a "nice natural and detailed sound"...

For anyone looking for small cubes Bose is not your only option.

Boston Acoustics 5.1xs is the best alternative
SoundWare XS 5.1 | Home Theater Speaker Systems | Speakers

They are the same size as Bose, but its a real 2 way speaker in each cube, they manage to fit a tweeter and a woofer in the small cube. The sub is nothing to talk about, but its not to bad. And plus its a real system that you can use with a real amp, instead of bs Bose speaker connections. And it does sound pretty good.. for what it is. Definetly better than the Bose, at a much cheaper price, but you will need an amp (which is a plus in my mind)

It is ironic when you read lots of dirt about Bose here, then look up at the top pf the page and see a Bose advertisement. They win from any exposure just like film stars.

Not ironic, but word-based advertising.

But, yes, exposure is the key for this particular company.

? The irony is that the word-based advertising shows it on the page...

By "word-based advertising", I meant that it's advertising that is based on key words on the page. If we had been talking about kittens, there probably would have been an ad for a pet adoption agency... or something like that.

Ahh, well, how to say simply... You believe in the effects of portable interconnects (they change the sound), and yet you preach about the hypnotic, mind-controlling ways of Bose. Do you see the hypocrisy?

Right..........Which is why it's ironic that the word based advertising would put it there, even though it's a "hate thread". I'm fully aware of what word based advertising is, I ran multiple websites for years.

Well, just so you all can sleep better tonight, I work at a BestBuy establishment of sorts (though I'm not keen to openly admitting it, just off the record should be fine) and do enjoy working there. I basically hang around in our MP3 section when I can and have fun playing "Jesus of Music", happily pointing out where the devil lay rest in the department.

I have not yet sold anything Bose, and will keep it that way. If the person is rude, I will, but I don't think that should count, cause well they deserve it. I just wish we had some better stuff in store.

As for those portable Ipod speaker docks, I gladly allow customers to demo our three top ones. I love doing the blind test, having never had a person openly admit the Bose sounded the best, they weren't bad, but weren't the best. The JBL ones definitely take the cake, though the Klipsch go for a different sound (still good), but not my preference. And for $200 (on sale for $150 many weeks) and $150 respectively, they definitely give you more for your money than Bose.

Anyone who says advertising doesn't work, needs to go buy a Bose system of any form, and return to me explaining why they bought Bose just because I told them to (and thats the lesson right there)

I hope you guys appreciate what soldiers like me do on the front-line. Its tough out there, wouldn't mind getting a beer tossed my way
