Getting the A900 Limited Edition!, but need help

hey all,

I have decided to get the Audio Technica A900 Limited Edition, but have a couple of questions.

1. Will I need an amp for these cans if I am using them with my iPod all the time?

2. Are these the best cans for listening to rap and rock music.

3. Are there any other cans that I should look at before I decide to purchase the A900 LTD's (looking for closed cans only around $300)?

4. Will others be able to hear what I am listening to while using these cans?

5. Where is the best and cheapest place to purchase these cans?

Thanks so much for all of your help.

Regards,
Ipaqman

1. No, dont need amp. Had the A900s. Sounds alittle better with an amp, but very little. Think they are good headphone.

2. Rap, maybe.. Rock.. Well depends on the sound you like. They have mids recessed alittle and nice bass and high treble. I like the sound but some don't. But without an amp can't do much better.

3. No I don't think so HD595 are 80 impendence. A900s are 40 impendence.

4. Only place I know of is AudioCubes.com

As mentioned earlier about the A900LTD needing and an amp, no you do not need an amp for them to sound good. The A900LTD can be easily driven to loud levels straight from the iPod and do sound great without an amp. However they can sound even better with an amp if you have the extra cash to buy one. The A900's also isolate quite well which means they don't leak much sound so others around you can't hear what you're listening to.

Will the sound leak through as much as the shure e3c's? also, if i were to get a portable amp for the A900 LTD's what amp would you suggest? The amp will need to be plugged into my ipod.

Thanks so much,
ipaqman

Has anyone who's heard the A900LTD also heard the er4 and can compare? Slightly odd comparison, but I'm toying with the idea of a high-end closed phone for portable use...

yea there is quite a bit more bass. The will be a notible increase in performance with these headphones.

The amp is over kill I wouldn't get it, unless you plan on getting other headphones. The performance increase is very very small. I really wouldn't advice it. If anything get a 5th gen ipod because the jack out will sound better and have more detail.

chris,

why did you get rid of the A900's? also, did you have the A900's or the A900 Limited Edition?
