I have compared my Micro DAC to my Audigy 2......let's not go there
What's odd is it only happens on certain tracks.

By the way, Mr. Headphoneus Supremus, I'm remembering the train ride to babylon... You sure talk a lot on here. Missed you in Bayside. Hope you're coming in the spring.

I get line noise both during tracks and when not playing, I'm using usb out through my laptop My USB cable is about 6 inches in length, and using zu-pivot to glite. I've switched to 4 diff usb cables with the same results too.

**** This is terrible, it's not the MicroDAC at all but my DPS that is causing the line noise , looks like I may need to send it in for repair ***

The Extreme Music actually uses 4382(which, incidentally is the same thing in the Audigy 2), Also the X-Fi sends it's signal through some suposedly bad Opamps. Main reason X-Fi sounds better then A2 is the far superior sample rate converter. I don't have anything to compare this setup to as it's my first/only good headphone rig.. currently it's

X-fi Analog out > Radio Shack Gold mini-mini (2M) > Headroom Micro(DM) > DT880.

Im looking for ways to upgrade this, but im at a loss. I've got a 5 foot RnB Starquad mini-mini coming soon though.

I may end up gettnig the MicroDAC and just giving it a listen to see if it's worth the money (kinda doubt it at this point) and if not I'll send it back. Good thing about the micro is you never have to worry about your future soundcards dac quality.. then again I suppose it's possible that your future sound cards could actually have a superior dac..

I'd assume MicroDAC can beat DAC in any sub $300 CD Player, let alone any sub $300 soundcard.

I just tried MicroDAC at work using USB connection, directsound output, no amp, I connected headphone directly from line-out. I was getting hissing sound whenever the music was being played. It was very noticable. However with onboard audio the sound was normal. And I don't recall any hiss issue on my home computer.

I tested it with following sources: PowerMac G5 USB2, old PowerBook G4 USB1.1, Dell Desktop USB2, and IBM ThinkPad X30 USB1.1 and I don't get any line noise or hiss directly from MicroDAC or with amps (SR71 and SuperMini3). I am using a generic mini USB cable that came with my digital camera. I used the following headsets for testing: Beyer 250/80, SennHD650, Shure E4, AKG K26P. Most of my music is encoded in 320kbps Apple's AAC format.

What computer source are you using?

It's a dell provided by our company to me, it has 18 gig of hard drive, so it's not a new model.

I heard the difference, can't describe it well but there is a difference.

Just to keep the record straight (pun intended, those at the november nyc meet know what I'm talking about)...

The hiss is definitely on the tracks, not anything to do with the DAC.
