My beloved Karma is still working perfectly; however, my $40 Best Buy 2 year replacement warranty expires in early January 2006, and I'm starting to wonder if I should return and replace my Karma for the G5 iPOD, or some other MP3 player they stock at Best Buy. Trouble is, I haven't seen anything else they stock there besides the G5 that looks worth it. Further trouble is, I love my Karma, it's amazing sound quality, Ogg support, Rio Music Manager software, superb interface, parametric EQ, gapless, etc. My only reason for returning it would be to take advantage of the replacement warranty I purchased, and the fear that the HDD will die on me the month after my warranty expires if I decide not to replace it. Will someone please put me out of my misery and make this decision for me?

It's very small player, so I like it. I have Clip+ since Christmas and I'm very satisfied!

I've had this card for quite a while now, and I have to say its a really nice card - a huge step-up to my on-board motherboard's audio. At first I do have to admit, it didn't feel like the D1...

Since that really doesn't seem like an option, I'd go for a Zen Sleek/Touch, X5, or 4G iPod.

If Best Buy carried the X5, then that is what I would probably do. Sadly, they do not carry it.

I know exactly what you're thinking with the replacement plan. That was
my orignal goal when I bought the circuit city plan with my Karma. I've still
got another year on it before it expires. Since Rio folded and the Karma is
now a rarity, It's a tough decision.
If your Karma isn't dead or dying, hold onto it. Info over at Riovolution has
stated that the new sigmatel chip is ready to go, and hopefully new players
will be using it next year. They would have to actively disable the features
that the developers (from Rio, now Sigmatel) have built. It basicly means
that there should be new players in the future with all the great features like
parametric eq, gapless, wider format support, etc...
I'm waiting till that hits before upgrading. I'm just thankful my Karma is still
going strong. (knocks on wood)

Or...
Return it and get your 40 bucks worth in warranty along with the $250 gift certificate or whatever. Save that for later, or use it on something else. Get a refurb karma (condition should be pretty good if factory refurb) for $180 or the price they go for now on the internet.Or if you are soulless, reap up a broken karma for cheap on ebay and swap that for the best buy voucher, keep your working karma and get all of your money back for the price of the defective one.
