Questions on the Sony DNE10

How does the dne10's headphone out and lineout compare to the Sony DFJ401?

I'm not happy with the dfj401's headphone out, however I never tried it's lineout because I don't have an amp yet.

I've heard really good things about the dne10. How does it stack up against the dfj401, since the dfj401 is supposedly the last true modern pcdp?

Is there a better modern pcdp than the dne10?

I need some help here.

I have the D-NE10. A search should turn up more opinions on the player itself. I don't have the D-FJ401 to compare it to. I can compare it to the D-555. Soundwise the D-555 has more drive, impact and detail. The D-NE10 still, however, sounds better than its 5mw per channel might indicate. The parametric equalizer works well, if tone control is desired. While the D-555 might have more ultimate detail the D-NE10 is still quite good -- better than the recent, stock D-EJ2000, in my opinion. I don't connect the lineouts (or pseudo-lineouts) to anything amymore so have no comment on the lineout.

If a small, portable, PCDP with very good sound is required the D-NE10 is an excellent choice, in my view.

I bought a d-ne20, HD650 and a WNA amp a few weeks back but have been working abroad and won't be able to get at it until the 9th Dec.....arrrrrg torture! I'm quite keen to compare:

with amp/without amp
default cables/custom cables
headphone socket/lineout
d-ne20/iPod
d-ne20/hi-fi separate CD player

If you can wait that long I'll probably do a full review then.

Joey maybe you could bring your fav CD and Sony DFJ401 into a shop and do a comparision using the same earphones and let us know what you think. I've never seen any of these models in my local shops, even then they are not very good about letting you try them to hear the sound.
