If I was to take a pair of rt35 and mount them on a wall or place them on a shelf on the wall how well will this work? The polk rt35 come with a wall mount bracket on the back of the speaker and I will be using them for the front main speakers. This set is mainly due to a small room, lots of furnature and placement considerations. It is unfortunate but nessary. Will there be severe sonic problems. Also do a lot of people on audiophile site like this share the same placement problems and are forced to place speakers in less than ideal positions?

Hi, Tom!
You're typically going to get a lot of bass reinforcement when you put any speaker close to a wall, which is where yours will be either bracketed or on a shelf attached to a wall. If your speaker has a port to the rear, you'll have even more bass. Stereo imaging could be severely messed up, too... Which is too bad, because that's what small speakers are so good at.
If you can, put the speakers on some stands. When doing just casual, everyday listening, leave them crammed in the corner. But when you want to do some serious listening, just pull the speakers and stands out into the room where they can breathe, set up a comfy chair, and enjoy the show. My speakers are placed tight up against our entertainment center, but I know the exact position out in the room where they sound great.
If you must bookshelf mount, use 3 small balls of sticky-tack or small rubber feet to separate the speaker bottom from the shelf. You'll have better quantity and quality bass that way.
