Chevelle

This band stands a bit higher than the sea of similar offerings that new rock has to offer. At least, thats what I think. They have energy and can produce a somewhat unique sound w/o being obnoxious.

Any other fans here?

Also, i keep hearing that they are a Christian band, but I cant seem to figure out why, are they??

( nice car too )

I really dont like anything before "This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In", which is an amazing CD. Their releases before that were just shallow and annoying.

They certainly seem to be evolving with each new album and growing as a band, but I still really like Wonder What's Next and Point #1(very raw but gooood).Gary.

EDIT:All bands have to start somewhere, but I wouldn't catagorize either of their first two albums as shallow(possibly pretentious).

pretentious, eh? Maybe that's why I like Point #1 best of all their albums. I feel they just turned into a bland mainstream rock act after that. However, I do enjoy Wonder What's Next, but never really got into This Type of Thinking...

I couldn't agree more rotator, after listening to WWN and TTOTCDUI I love going back to Point #1 and seeing how it all developed from their garage days begining.Even though I like their new stuff,I think I enjoy listening to Point #1 best.Gary.

Yep! One of the few "nu-metal"ish groups I like and listen to occasionally. Some genuine talent there, but not really for people who are annoyed by nu-metal.

Big fan here. They have a unique sound to them. Its unique but still fits into the genre well. Their heavily rift driven sound is really quite interesting, i feel like it adds a melodic element to their sound. As well the drummer isn't to shabby. Any one else feel me?

Kings Xsuffered from the set Christian rock tag. Still does not stop their first couple of albums being really good.

You know it funny what that title will do to a band. Anberlin, for example, fights it with every fiber they have. And i cant say i blame them. People just wont listen to them if they have that title. I'm guilty of this. Its not that i have anything against Christianity, it just that style, goodness, its so ridiculously cliche, cheesy, and repetitive.

Actually Live have also been tarred with that brush, although some of their later stuff.....

Chevelle is one of the few bands ive been listening to since like before highschool, and i still like them alot. Point #1 and Wonder What's Next are fantastic. The only downside to their career is This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In, worst cd they ever put out. Vena Sera was much better, though still not up to the level of Wonder What's Next. I would say Sci-FI Crimes was about the same, still a solid release.

The CD that blew me away though is Hats Off to the Bull, thats the best music they've put out since Wonder What's Next, and might just be the best cd they have ever released, i love it

I only heard of Chevelle when their first mainstream single, 'The Red', saw plenty of air play, and led me to get Wonder What's Next and really enjoyed the album, though the slightly whiny vocals and lyrics were a slight negative.  The subsequent albums were just average at best, with most of the songs seeming to blend into one another without the same energy from Wonder What's Next and I haven't really listened to Chevelle for a good 6-7 years unless it happens to come on the radio while I'm in the car.

I think Chevelle is a good band, get unfairly labeled as Christian rock when I think they're more nu-metal than anything else, but went through a period that lacked inspiration, though I haven't heard their most recent album.

i dont really understand calling them Nu Metal at all. They dont sound like any other nu metal band out there. They are more Hard Rock, or maybe alternative metal...calling them Nu Metal is silly. Go listen to Disturbed or older Korn and tell me Chevelle sounds anything like that rolleyes.gif
