RS-1 burn in time?

Just got my RS-1 today to replace my SR-60 after months of deliberation. How long does it take for the RS-1 to sound its best?

It actually sounds nice now, maybe a bit shrill but a good sign for more to come . Its slightly brighter then the SR-60 and its plenty agressive, like something bitchslapping my ears which gives me a headache with certain recordings.

Mine is no. 2260 and tomorrow I'm going to buy lottery, no guesses for what no. thats going to be

I find that the Grados, in particular, need a lot less time to reach there potential, then, lets say Sennheisers. With only 30 to 40 hours on my RS-1's, the highs had improved nicely. Same with my, now sold, 325i's.

Just remembered that mine was a showcase unit during an audio fair earlier this year. Just imagine the many sweaty ears that graced the bowls. Out they go now

I've found that for the these cans the biggest difference comes approx in the first 30 hrs altogether. At first, out of the box, they sounded "rolled off" at top and bottom. But then sound really extended within the first 1-2 hrs. Then it goes all the opposite way to very pronouced highs. From then on, IME, the sounds smooths out quite a bit. But I agree, the RS1s tend to do most of the changes during an early stage.

When I first got my RS-1s, they were a bit shrill so let them play in a spare room for 2 days straight. When I put them back on, they had found their groove and sounded great.

Just wash them with warm soapy water and rinse them well. Air dry them and not only will they be clean but they will be softer (more confortable) as well. By the way give them about 100 hours of burn in.

Got it. I prefer the bowls over the comfies. I don't find them painful at all.
