What are you amping the K701 with? - Page 2

Andrea or anyone else, can you explain how you did the conversion (the math) that compared the sensitivity of the K701's and K501's.

Thanks,

Jay

Currently, M^3 w/AD843, however the cans aren't burnt in so no real room for opinion other than they power them dandy

Volume is not an issue, I can get the same volume from them on my ipod as my ksc 50s, but they clearly don't respond well to low current.

I used my own "indirect" method (I'm no engineer or anything) but it is exact, you can have a "double check" through http://www.headphone-amplifier.com/calculator.htm. If you insert "93" in the "Effectivity" field and "1000" in the "Level (mV)", you'll obtain a SPL of 105 dB (at 1000 mV = 1 V) as from AKG's data.

Mm, maybe buying the 601's. Wonder if my ha2 mkII se will be a good match, does any of you know?

And since blessingx has the SR71, I hope somebody could chime in if this amp (or the Hornet) could drive the K701 well.

These cans kinda remind me of the K340's proper need for juice.

I could hear the song from couple of meters away if I set the volume to 10 o'clock. They are like small speakers.

edit: GS-1 here, btw.

I listened to the 701's thru a Dynahi and a Raptor, and they were more than adequate. The subsonic bass was astounding. The 340's are a whole differnt animal...not comprable to the 701's. I really think that any amp that can handle the HD600 family and the Beyer DT880's would also be a good match.

The 701’s are much easier to drive than the 501’s, they are a little easier to drive than the 601’s. I believe that they require similar qualities from an amp as the HD-650’s. Almost any amp will drive the 650’s, whether it sounds good doing so is an entirely different question.

I listened briefly to the 701’s being driven by Ray’s Hornet. It sounded very nice. The Hornet has an amazingly large set of balls.

Hmmm... What is this legend about the K501 being ultra-hard-to-drive when at the same time I've seen the Go-Vibe recommended for it as a great (budget) combination?

No idea about that but AKG 501 on my XCan sounds kind off lifeless. I need to turn the knob more then half way across.

The AKG 501 are like mini speakers....they leak alot. Good to hear AKG 701 honours that tradition.

I'm amazed. You've provided me with the solution to my utmost dilemma without even realizing it.

I'm amping them with Rudistor RP5.1 and damn how good they sound. Just got them today but I'm already in love with them. AKG has really done well with these.

Yikes: Could you say briefly how burn-in affected the sound?

Is there anyone who thinks they sound worse after burning them in for a while? If not then I'm pretty sure these will outrival 650s. But I've just listened them for an hour so I won't be making any decisions yet.

Let's give them a long time run

What would you guys think the sound signature of the K701 is? Warm, cold, bright? I'm only asking so that I can try to find an amp that gets good synergy with them.
