First Impressions:
Well, when I first used these, I used them in the same place I'd expect myself to continue using these, on the go from place to place, and while at places outside the...
I bought these this week from amazon.co.uk for £10 including delivery. That's US $15.
Packaging, appearance, warranty, euro-nanny knows best:
Mine arrived in the small European packaging box,...
Absolutely beautiful little player. It's just a gorgeous chunk of tech that feels good to hold. For me personally tech has to have form as well as function and the AK120 doesn't disappoint on...
I agree w most reviews that these does not warrant the $499 MSRP. (Then rather opt for D5k, D7k).
BUT - at the +-$230 range I got them at (Amazon warehouse) - these are VERY good value for...

My K701 should arrvie in this week! And Dr. Jan just told that the first batch of Aria should arrive in the next week. Hopeful you guys could get some comments about this combo in the next week.
Andrea or anyone else, can you explain how you did the conversion (the math) that compared the sensitivity of the K701's and K501's.
Thanks,
Jay
I used my own "indirect" method (I'm no engineer or anything) but it is exact, you can have a "double check" through http://www.headphone-amplifier.com/calculator.htm. If you insert "93" in the "Effectivity" field and "1000" in the "Level (mV)", you'll obtain a SPL of 105 dB (at 1000 mV = 1 V) as from AKG's data.
I listened to the 701's thru a Dynahi and a Raptor, and they were more than adequate. The subsonic bass was astounding. The 340's are a whole differnt animal...not comprable to the 701's. I really think that any amp that can handle the HD600 family and the Beyer DT880's would also be a good match.
The 701’s are much easier to drive than the 501’s, they are a little easier to drive than the 601’s. I believe that they require similar qualities from an amp as the HD-650’s. Almost any amp will drive the 650’s, whether it sounds good doing so is an entirely different question.
I listened briefly to the 701’s being driven by Ray’s Hornet. It sounded very nice. The Hornet has an amazingly large set of balls.
Hmmm... What is this legend about the K501 being ultra-hard-to-drive when at the same time I've seen the Go-Vibe recommended for it as a great (budget) combination?
I'm amping them with Rudistor RP5.1 and damn how good they sound. Just got them today but I'm already in love with them. AKG has really done well with these.
Yikes: Could you say briefly how burn-in affected the sound?
Is there anyone who thinks they sound worse after burning them in for a while? If not then I'm pretty sure these will outrival 650s. But I've just listened them for an hour so I won't be making any decisions yet.

What would you guys think the sound signature of the K701 is? Warm, cold, bright? I'm only asking so that I can try to find an amp that gets good synergy with them.
