Listen through speakers' headphone jack or soundcard's?

Hey all-
Quick question: will I get better sound quality through the headphone jack on my Logitech z-5300e's or should I run it directly through my Audigy 2 Platinum? The reason I ask is because I don't currently have the 5.25" drive box installed for the Audigy (hence no headphone jack on the front panel of my PC), but if it's going to improve sound quality I'll go ahead and hook-it-up. I originally removed it because of my WC setup (and it's ugly).
I've been listening through the speakers' headphone jack so far and it doesn't seem so bad. Would a set of speakers like this one (5.1, THX, 280w RMS) be able to power my headphones better than the naked soundcard? Or would it end up coloring the sound?
I suppose I could just find out by installing the card and comparing, but that requires moving a whole bunch of stuff around. I'm also interested in learning some of the technical stuff beyond just 'what sounds good.'

Thanks!

Definitely the Audigy. The headphone out on the Z5300s sounds like...well, if I say what it sounds like, it'll be censored.

Wow, that did make a pretty big difference! Between this and removing the foam from my phones, head-fi has got me hooked. Do with me what you will.

Next up: recabling.

The phones I am reffering to for recabling are the UR40's. Otherwise the only phones I use at home on the computer are my HD497's. I have some other stuff for my portable.

I've been thinking about a new card, as I do a lot of home recording and the Audigy's capabilities just don't cut it. Recommendations?

I'd like to do a c-moy too, but I haven't had the time/I am too lazy to get all the pieces together.

I am using my headphone out on my comp right now to the G-Lite and then to the Hf-1. Im not gonna lie it sounds like utter crap. The Ipod line out sounds ten times better. I wish I had a DAC......

A humble AV-710 (via the "alternate" output) would probably also do for now, or in case of a slightly larger budget, a Revo 5.1 or 0404.

It's apples and oranges, you cannot compare the two.
