Congrats!

Doesn't the Meridian have balanced outputs? It would be interesting to hear your impressions comparing the Max DAC with the Meridian; if I understand the setup of the Balanced Home, I believe you'd be able to switch between sources during playback, no?

Best,
Beau

Yeah, you can very easily. From all accounts it should be very, very close. Though the Meridian may end up having the edge because it will have a familiar interconnect that will have a particular take on the sound that he might prefer/be used to, and as an integrated solution may have less jitter? The upsampling does reduce jitter, but it doesn't eliminiate it on the HeadRoom DAC. I'd still argue that the Balanced DAC ought to have a technical edge due to lack of interconnects/board mounting, so I'm quite curious.

insomniac,
what headphones and cable are you using with the max amp?

Id be interested in your thoughts also between the meridian and max dac.

Yep, I will be doing that. I wish the digital/analog switch was on the front of the unit for easier flipping but it's no big deal. Gotta reach around the back.

I am using the Sennheiser HD600 with Cardas with it for now, but the HD650, HP3000 (BlackMax), and Qualia (Blue Dragon v2) will all get their turn on it. All balanced of course.

Considering the headroom balanced line does not get much mention around here, Id be interested in what your thoughts are on the unit.
