Great service!

Some of you may have spotted my thread on me trying to out Jude Jude by getting an eight way distrubtion socket from an englih mail order company called Russ Andrews

Well I placed the order on Monday afternoon (around 5 in the evening after I got home from work ) and got told that it would be a week to a fortnights delivery, fair enough I think and put it out of my mind.

Got home today (thursday) to find a yellow slip from the delivery company saying a packet has been left next door with my neighbour (driver using his intelligence for once instead of taking it back to the depot!)rang the door and there it was waiting for me!

Have got it plugged in now and have it warming up (apparantly there is a burn in time of get this THREE WEEKS ) Immediate impressions are that its BIG. The size of the photo doesnt do it justice....

davidcotton,

While it's breaking in, you ought to take some pics of it and post them. If you're able to do this, can you place it next to something that we head-fi'ers can use as a relative size comparison?

I have to see this thing!

No joke, I had to tie ferrite cores to my sump pump power cord, and to the power cords of my headphone amp and CD player to keep from picking up the noise generated mostly by my sump pump, but also from my refrigerator, dimmers (why do dimmers cause such noise?), and air conditioner. Got the Brick Wall and removed the ferrite cores, and, voila, quiet as can be! It has also perceptibly lowered the noise floor in my home headphone rig. A lot of crap can come in through those power lines, man.

As you know, I also route my power cables and interconnects carefully to keep them from passing over high EMI/RFI sources, as well as each other. Stop chuckling, man!

A good power conditioner (even the ones that don't regenerate AC), can do a great job of removing EMI and RFI from the power into your components, and that's no joke, man. Also, if your conditioner has isolated outlets, then it keeps noise generated by the components themselves away from other components.

My next power tweak will be a balanced power transformer, most likely.

jude, I wasn't questioning the wisdom of using a power conditioner, although for whatever reason, I've never experienced "dirty" power where I live. I was pointing out the "breaking in" part, which I think is still open to debate. ......at least I hope so.
BTW, I don't have air conditioning, or a sump pump, or dimmers, or flourescent lights of any kind. I do have a refrigerator, though. Your title under my name is perfect, don't you think?
As far as being the Mike Walker of Grados, dhwilkin (or is it DB Wilkin?), I don't have nearly enough experience.........not even close. I'm really not too sure about all this stuff.

DB Wilkin? Eh?

Anyway, I was just joking about Mike's fanatical love of the Senn. 580s (which I completely understand, since I have a pair). You could cover the entire Grado line-up!

Now that I think about it, Tomcat would fit the bill perfectly for those Beyers...

For some reason, I thought that awhile back on Headwize, in a heated discussion, Mike kept referring to you as DBwilkin......maybe I'm having a senior moment.
I'm really not that fanatical about Grados, though. I've been listening a lot lately to my Sonys and AKGs as well. I have an appreciation for all my headphones, and could never say that one is necessarily better than the other one in all aspects of sound quality.

No air conditioning? Sacrilege! Though my parents come from a hot, tropical country, I can't stand hot weather. I mean autumn and winter are my very favorite seasons up here in Michigan.

Well the bad news is that the reason I bought the thing was to stop the noise from the fridge (I'm assuming here but..) has failed totally and utterly to stop it. I have a couple of other options to try yet (aside from swearing!) as that HUUUMMMMM is really getting annoying!

Jude no digital camara yet so no pics I am afraid!

However if you find that thread "judes got company" scroll down till you get to the link and then scroll down THAT page to RUSS ANDREWS MAINS ACCESSORIES thats what I got so to speak...

Whether or not I keep it is in the balance at the mo as £350 is a helluva lot of money whichever way you look at it (there you are I still have SOME semblance of sanity) and I hear the people over at MANA (furniture building check out www.mana.co.uk for details!)calling me..........!

Are you saying that you bought this unit to stop line noise you were experiencing, but it did not work? If that's what you're saying, I'm sorry to hear that.

Ah, that sucks. Sorry that didn't fix your problem, davidcotton, maybe something's just not well-grounded?

On a non-related note, I think there should be an alarm clock whose wake-up noise is a really loud HUUMMM! Audiophiles everywhere would no longer have to worry about waking up on time.
