Sensaphonics + UE-10 Pro's + Killers(?) :)

My presumptions regarding the UE-10 Pro's were accurate I must admit. While these are good overall IEM's I definitely prefer the 2XS. It was covered many times before so I'll just mention the main points: 2XS are beyond any doubt more comfortable than UE's and because of the material used provide a better isolation and thus a better sound for my ears. The fit of UE's is worse, because there is no way for the hard acrylic to move together with the ear canal as it is in the case of soft 2X. Both IEM's are high-end but to me it's obvious that UE-10 Pro's are overpriced on that matter. 2XS being cheaper still show greater strength in many core areas. I find 2XS more accurate, natural and their sound signature is more to my taste- it's more speaker like (similar to a high-end tweeter and a bass driver combo). It's just real. UE's cannot be as neutral as the vocals ARE moved forward here. I'll have to spend with them some more time, but it's slightly annoying already. If I hadn't heard 2XS before maybe it wouldn't be that noticeable. My ears got spoiled . 2XS have a natural attack and decay. While the attack of UE-10 Pro's is very, very good the natural decay of 2XS is simply unmatched. The soundstage of 2XS is also better and UE-10 Pro's can't handle the frontal imaging as well to boot. Sibilance mastery is once again the strength of 2XS.

Anyway

Now for something completely different: the potential killers .
I cannot say anything for the time being, except that in a couple of days those brand new thingies should land in my ears and it seems I'll be among the very few in the whole world to have'em (don't even know their name yet ). Just a tease and sorry I can't reveal more info, but it can be the next best thing . Anticipation is killing me...

You are killing me too. Which company made the potential killer? Will you reveal that?

so you must be one of the lucky beta testers then. Well, please post back the result ASAP if you are allowed to reveal it.

I'm not a beta tester either. As soon as I can disclose anything I'll share my experience.

EDIT: Beware - the following post is meant ironic: There is no ER-8, no matter how much I'd appreciate a new IEM from Etymotic Research.

Are you talking about the Etymotic Research ER-8 (code name "FX")? I recently met Mead Killion and I was able to listen to a pair of prototype phones called "FX" - soon to hit the markets as the new ER-8 (or ER-8T, T for Triple (driver)).
These are a good deal bigger than the ER-4s, but they include a true triple driver system - and instead of using to low-freq drivers like the UE-10 they're using a true triple driver system like Westone, one for bass, mid and highs. He told me they skipped the dual driver systems completely because prototypes were found to be not satisfying considering the sound quality vs production costs. The new triple driver system is said to be neutral - but just like the ER-4s they added a slight treble boost. He assured me that it will be a universal (!) IEM, because this way they'll be able to keep the prices considerably lower than the "other" high end brands (I guess he was referring to UE and Westone).

I'm allowed to talk about it since the beginning of November, I guess root is getting the same phones.

How long have you had your UE-10 Pro? Have you listened to them exclusively for a long period of time? Just wondering as I think it takes time to get used to a different sonic signature.

Best regards,

Yes Jason, you are right. My assumptions may be a bit premature. I've listened to UE-10 Pro exclusively for about a week and a half (with the average of 4, 5 hours a day). I know it is not enough and a longer listening period should be in order to go into further details and be more meticulous, but I can adjust to a different sonic signature pretty easily I think (took me two, three days to become fully accustomed to the sonic signature of 2XS when using Shure E3's before).

Hmm, interesting - well, I think a week of steady listening is pretty good. That's about how long it takes me to develop a decent opinion, though it takes maybe 3 weeks to really feel comfortable about it. Cool - no matter what we do need more opinions from people who have both the UE 10 and 2X-S.

Awful curious what the killer might be. If you find the Grado of IEM - dude, that is the holy grail!

Best regards,

-Jason

The thing is I've never heard any Grado headphone at all :ashamed:, so I really don't know a thing about it. From the opinions read I think that maybe UE-10 Pro's could be more like Grado's (with their in-your-face sound and more pronounced vocals). I really don't know...

Marcus, can you post more impressions/info on the "ER-8"?
Yeah, like how many sound tubes?
New triple driver IEMs from Etymotic is very exciting.

-Approx. what is the street price?
-How many sound tubes?
-What were your sound impressions?

Come back to the computerrrrrr!!
