I too found it surprising that there are no quick impressions other then size,

How does it compare with your other portables? I am greatly interested in how it stacks up with your other gear!

Ray does no factory run-in on the SR-71 (batteries!), and i don't remember him mentioning a different policy on the Hornet. I guess the most conservative impressions won't follow till next week.

my kingdon for an interconnect...

there is, of course, a certain irony in that this thread began with photos and now everyone is demanding listening impressions...

i just checked my mailroom at work and bam, i've got myself an impressively small box straight from skokie. i really wish i could comment on something besides how beautiful and small and feeling-quality-made the amp is, but (moron that i am) i forgot to bring an IC to work. i've got my ipod line out, two pairs of headphones, and all the time in the world to rock out...but no 1/8th inch cable.

i'll have to swing over to the local rat shack during my lunch..

oh yeah, it's number 15.

Be sure to give us some impressions in the sound as compared to the SR-71. That's what I've been waiting for!

It's a winner

Okay, I do not own an SR-71 to compare to, and I'm at the moment at work so can't compare to my Ear+ HD, but I can type that the Hornet sounds simply phenomenal.

Initial impressions, based on 20 minutes of listening. The midrange is forward but ultra smooth and organic sounding, similar to my tube amp. Bass is full, textured, fast, and detailed, and the high end is sweet without a hint of glare or harshness. Cymbals have the right shimmer and decay, and I get a sense of weight from the hits. I also get an overall sense of three dimensional space and perfect instrument separation.

I'm using my modified Nano (iMod Nano) as a source and pumping Apple lossless through my HF-1s and my Sensaphonics 2X-S. I'm hearing home system quality sound from a package that is in total, 2 x 3.5 x 1.25 inches. Stoked!

I'll snap a few pics for the appropriate thread, but will end by typing, hold on, you are in for a real treat!

nice.. from your short description definitely it seems it can be quite the perfect match for my hp-2 for quality listening on transport ..
I can't wait for mine to arrive and to give it a run ..

looking forward to read some comparo with other full size amp , and to read how does it match with some of the most blasoned headphones too.. just waiting for them to appear now

dang, that is a tiny setup you have (w/sensaphonics and not the hf-1, of course)...

the tubiness is consistent with original reports of similarities to the raptor, no?

man, i'm looking forward to this...

Just got mine, initial thoughts:

It's a little better than the 5G iPod headphones out but not a major improvement. I am currently using Pocketdock line out and Cardas interconnects.
