Advice on 5.1 for DVD Viewing

well, thanks to ultimate electronics financing I bit the bullet and went all out on getting a tv. a samsung HL-R4266W. (it's a 720p native 42" DLP) So now I decided I need to look for surround sound for it. Anyone have advice on a good set of 5.1 speakers, probably also with a reciever that takes optical? I don't want to spend more than $600 for it, but I can swing $1000 if it's worth spending $400 more.

How big is your room? Will this surround system be used for music?

It's a fairly small room, but I'm at work right now so I can't give measurements (I'll post some when I get home tonight). actually, this gives an idea of how far the tv is from the love seat.

I'm hoping to stay away from satillite speakers. Listening to music would be a good idea since I'm spending this much on it so I need to get a dvd player that can play sacds, but I'm not including it in the $600 or so that I wish to spend on speakers alone.

Since it's a samsung, there's a samsung home theatre rig that does dvda/sacd. (Samsung has a thing called anynet that lets you control things easier with one remote)

I'll have to go and take a look at that. I guess with the size of my room, I couldn't get away with decent sized speakers anyways.

Get 2 pairs of Athena Technology AS-B1 for front and rear L/R speakers. Add the AS-C1 for center channel duty. Total $300.00.

Then add either the matching Athena Technology AS-P300 powered sub, the Dayton 10" power sub, or the Hsu STF-1. Total for all speakers....$600.00 or less.

For receiver, get a Panasonic SA-XR55 digital-amp receiver for under $250.00 shipped and you're all set.

Very good sounding system for music and movies.

Btw, here's a review of the Athena AS-B1 bookshelf speakers. You can also do a search on this forum since many members have had good luck experiences with them.
