I just called Stefan AudioArts to inquire if they can reterminate my Equinox cable. The answer is NO. Apparently, the balance v. non-balance has different "configurations." I called Zu and they are willing to reterminate my mobius for $40 plus shipping.

So I ordered a set of balanced Blue Dragons (out of stock at the moment) and will probably send my Zu to be reterminated for comparison.

I worded my comments about the Cardas rather gently to avoid upsetting the fans, but it doesn't look like I succeeded. I'll try not to mention it again. I am glad you don't hear anything like that, but it gave me a headache in my system. I am not the only one who has heard this aspect of the sound, though more people seem to not hear it at all, and I say good for them, as they can enjoy a great cable in a way that I couldn't.

I'm looking forward to my Blue Dragon.

I preferred the Zu cable over the equinox, cardas and Silver dragon cables. I beleive the cost was 235.00 for the 2.5 meter cable balanced with XLR connection. I also think the build quality was much better than either the Silver Dragon or Equinox. Enjoy your balanced system!

Bah you guys keep poking at the Cardas I might break down and buy the Zu to compare I know I prefer the Cardas to stock and Silver Dragon and the compression from the Zu doesn't sound like my thing but...

Curious as to what source/amp you used with the Cardas?

I compared the single ended Cardas to the balanced Silver Dragon and Zu with the Meridian 588 and the Gilmore Balanced Reference.

I've had a chance to use my Cary 306/200, Sony SCD-1, Audio Aero Capitole MKII, and the Audio Aero Prima SE DAC with all or at least combinations of the following cables and prefered the Zu, Silver Dragon, and equinox over the Cardas (did not like the Blue Dragon at all) with the 650. I like the Equinox and then the Cardas with the 600.

Was more looking for TheSloth system. Don't think I've ever read you guys comment on a glare in the midrange of the Cardas. To me anyway the word glare describes a sound that would be obvious and noticable in a heartbeat.

All Headroom - A 2003 Cosmic, new module 2004 Supreme, and a Desktop with Max Modules.

I wish there was useful terminology what I heard. It was particular instruments in the midrange, which felt like they were being drilled into my brain, with a kind of hard edge. It would make me squint and frown without even realising it, and we aren't talking about unrealistic volume levels here.

Anyway, I fully intend to give the Cardas another chance at the NY meet, but it's unlikely that either it or I have changed significantly since our first encounter.

This is weird as Headroom probably uses HD650s with balanced Cardas cables to test amps -- I believe they even sell the balanced Cardas.

Which is exactly why I bought the cable in the first place. What can I say, maybe I have odd shaped ears...
