They have an address listed in Delaware, not sure where the equipment is actually made though.

I believe Mcintosh has been owned by the Japanese since the early 90s unfortunately. Still a brand with an excellent reputation, but if you're a stickler for a purely American brand, they don't quite fit the bill.

I personally would look into Cary. Or for amps, Manley Labs and Rogue Audio are very solid brands as well. Mostly classic beefy tube designs.

I know they're Canadian, but are NAD's upper-end components considered high end?

No mention of VAC (Valve Amplification Company) yet.
From what little I've owned, I'm impressed.
I think they are stationed in Florida.

Even some of its later Optimus speakers/components were quite excellent. Minimus 7, anyone?

McIntosh was purchased by Japan's Clarion (of car stereo fame) in the 80s but its production has always remained in the US. Several years ago, McIntosh, along with Denon and Marantz, and later on with Boston Acoustics, was consolidated into D&M Holdings. However, D&M was bought out earlier this year by an American company whose name escape me right now.

according to wiki D&M is still a public company, but the primary share holder is some equity firm in NY, Ripplewood Holdings

Highly recommended. If you're British, you'll like Conrad-Johnson. Smooth.

Good, cheap amplification built like a rock: Adcom

Oh you like Snell? What speakers. I'm running a set of old JIIs at the moment. Pretty decent.

Another Snell fan here. They were a bit out of my price range at the time so I got M&K sat./sub. But I always held Snell in high regard.
