HD 25-1 cable mod planned - need hints [Germans wanted]!

I plan to replace the stock cable on my HD 25-1 with Sennheiser's #74532 OFC cable. I need some help. German Head-Fiers might be able to help best, but of course all help is appreciated

Problems/Questions:

1. Portable use, I need a 3,5mm / 1/8" plug.
2. Yes, portable, I do not really consider a 1/4"->1/8" dongle portable, I would like to replace the plug.
3. Where to get a really nice right-angled 3,5mm plug? In Germany. I want a high-quality one, and I want it to be pretty All I find are crappy plastic ones, totally frustrating
4. Just how hard is it to swap plugs? I think I don't even own a soldering iron but I should be able to find one & educate myself / find a friend who can do it.
5. Do you think it is all pointless effort & I should just get the 1/4"->1/8" dongle adaptor from meier-audio? That would be another €20, it is bigger than my current amp, and the plug is straight

...other questions developing on the way are WHY IN THE WORLD doesn't Sennheiser *provide* a matching OFC cable termiated to 3,5mm, WHY doesn't the Sennheiser spare parts store have ANY kind of search field, and WHO is the responsible for those lists?! If you want #69417 (the velour pads for HD 25 / 25-SP) you will not find it in the HD 25 list, but only along the SP. *argh*

BTW, does anyone happen to know the # of the Sennheiser 1/8"->1/4" dongle?

I am located in Germany and therefore would prefer if someone could help me about where to get said nice plugs in Germany (for importing them would add just another layer of cost), and I guess Germans are most likely to know Nevertheless, I'll edit the title.

www.thomann.de

3. Then do a search for Neutrik and 3,5mm, you'll get a few choices

Thanks Yes, I found sth. I like they also have all the other stuff I need. Safe for the Sennheiser 1/4" to 1/8" cable-adaptor, or any such adaptor employing a cable. Ah well, I'll pick that up at Meier-Audio *lights a cigarette with a bundle of € notes*

Yes, they are a great source for DIY cabling, since they have both Neutrik and Belden... And even supply us in the frozen north!

Ok, everything is on its way to my doorstep now, let the insanity begin.

I see some serious re- and defoaming action plus possible re-nylonizing on the horizon since I also ordered the velour pads.

The cable used on Senn HD25-BA (British Airlines) varient is 1.5m ........it is shown on http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser...nsf/root/03759 - use dropdown menu products/headphones/accessories (stock number: 052708)
I purchased HD-25-BA and then got the desire to create a hybrid ...std 25-SP headband, 25-1 elements (inversion is not a problem), velour earpads, and a short copper cable for the li'l ol' Nano. For utmost comfort snap on a Beyer headband as on dt770.
If in the USA, you will find Sennheiser USA does not have them in inventory, but will order them for you (from Germany) @ $17.01.

Hmmmm. I am beginning to feel a little aggression against Sennheiser and how they organize their "stores", especially about the level of supplied information. #052708 (how do you know this is a OFC cable btw? ) of course is a nice find if you use the HD 25-SP, but since the length is symmetric it is of little use with the HD-25 unless you mod it. Which might then result in a length-problem. It saves you the added cost of an angled plug though.

I know it's a little late to resurrect this thred, but I stumbled across and for future reference...
I just recently bought a pretty worn down HD 25-1 on ebay and "restored" it with velour pads, shortened #74532 OFC cable and a neutrik right-angle plug (all from thomann.de).

It makes a really great portable can!

Soldering the Senn cable wasn't that hard, thanks to Jan Meier:http://www.meier-audio.homepage.t-on...tipstricks.htm

Nice

I still did not get down to re-terminate my 74532, but a friend of mine kindly offered his help so maybe it will be done in a while.

Just for the record, if one just needs that angled Neutrik plug, it's cheaper at Reichelt (3.30 vs. 4.80 Euro).

Actually, I got it cheaper at www.musikerkabel.de. €2.77 for the nickel / €3.63 for the gold-plated one.
Also their minimum order is lower than at thomann (20 vs. 25).

But I frequently order from reichelt and somehow I missed they even had 3,5mm plugs from Neutrik. - So thanks a lot lini!

Btw, I just discovered tinypic.com, so here's a picture:

BB: I guess, we'd have to order one from Reichelt in order to see who's in fact cheaper - 'cause Reichelt's description mentions gold plating for the contacts, but the pic just shows the all nickel version...
