Here’s my story, skip down to the next paragraph if you just want the hear the question

1.Purchase iPod
2.Purchase ER6
3.Return ER6 for ER4P with S cable
4.Purchase Mint amp for portable use
5.Purchase SuperMini (sold quickly, didn’t like it at all)
6.Purchase PPA v1 for office use
7.Purchase SR-325’s for office
8.Return 325’s too uncomfortable for office use
9.Purchase HD580’s for office use
10.Purchase Equinox cable for 580’s
11.VERY HAPPY
12.Sell everything except for iPod and ER4P (for no good reason)
13.Hiatus from HeadFi for a year to recover from this illness
14.(one year later Feb 2005) Hmmm, let me see whats new on HeadFi
15.Wow lots of new stuff, maybe I should try out a new Total Airhead
16.Order new TAH (very happy with it)
17.Need new office cans, Order HD595’s
18.3 weeks later, “man I bet that Micro sounds even better than this TAH”
19.Return TAH, order Micro w/ Micro module (need portability)
20.Get Micro, and moderately happy, but wonder if desktop module is better
21.Thinking maybe the Micro is too laid back for 595’s cans, maybe try SR-71?
22.TODAY

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I listen to mostly rock, and mostly at work. The amp need to be battery powered because I don’t always sit in my office, I have to work in a lab as well. I don’t like the “laid back” sound of Senn’s but they are SOOO comfortable to wear. I use the ER4’s and the 595’s depending on my mood that day. The 595’s seem to sound muffled with the Micro amp compared to just being driven directly from the iPod.

What would you recommend for an amp to run ER4’s, 595’s (possible another set of Grado’s) that’s battery powered.

I’ve done searches and read all the reviews; they just confuse me even more. Does anybody have a similar setup?

Please help out a very confused HeadFi’er

Are you using iPod line-out?

I think you should give grado's another try, make sure to get a pair of cpads from headphile though to improve comfort.

awesome combo-

ipod
sik din
sub-100 amp like the go vibe or a cmoy
1/8 to 1/4 adapter
HF-1.

ROCK. And yes you can get cpads, but for the HF-1 just wash the bowls or soften em up or something - they sound better with bowls to me.

Warpdriver,

How do you like the Micro with your 225's?
What kind of music do you listen to?
Have you had the opportunity to compare the Micro module to the Desktop one?

Thanks, Markkr

Hmm never heard the Airhead, so I can't comment! Someone is selling their HF-1 on the sale forums tho, couldn't hurt to take a flyer on it for instant gratification!

I listen to rock/pop/trance/ambient/electronic/new-age/folk

I use the Micro mainly with the 880's, excellent detail and quickness. The Grado's are pretty good with the Micro DM, the Micro really brings out even more quickness and dynamics out of the 225's, almost too much to the point I think that it sounds a bit artificial. My sources are all pretty bright, so the Micro is a bit too revealing.

I haven't heard the Micro Module, but the DM rocks. Everybody has said it makes a big difference.

Where are you located in South Florida? I have an sr-71 that you are welcome to try out. I hope to have a Hornet soon and same offer applies. If you interested, some of South Florida guys were thinking of a mini meet before Tampa. I know one who would probably attend has the AE-1. Send me a pm if you have interest in any of the above.

Mike
