Latest: K701
Next: Maybe I'll try out a Stax system no earlier than summer of 07; I am done with dynamic headphones until AKG (or some other company) comes out with something similar to, but better than (specifically: more coherent and less in-the-head soundstage with some imaging, no treble harshness/spike, and less muddying-up of the sound by the bass, along with better bass timbre and texture and more extension) the K701, and is priced around $300. Hopefully though, there will be no next purchase for me, Stax or otherwise. The K701, while having some obvious flaws, is good enough.

I'm keeping a very sharp eye out for an AKG K-501. Very curious as to how it'll mate to my LD II+, you see!

Had absolutely positively setteled on MS2i over RS-2 to upgrade from MS-1.

Yesterday there was a symphony on one of the PBS chanels on TV. The kids outnumbered me, took over and watched something else.

No problem: I'll just grab a big orchestral piece from the other 65% of my CD collection that isn't rock related and listen to my own darned symphony!!

Not on MS-1s I don't! Just a bit bright and insufficient soundstage. Oh-oh. I knew that. Listened to some rock and found that while absolutely glorious, it was just about bordering on the bright side. I knew that too. I also know that MS2i is a bit brighter than MS-1.

So then, I need just a bit more soundstage. The MS2i and RS-2 will both supply that. I need better definition, both will do that. I understand that the RS-2 is the only Grado/Alessandro that's warmer than MS-1.(although the MS-Pro might sneak in there in the middle.) and if I want to warm things up just a little bit and get away from the not-too-unreasonable MS2i brightness, the "Battle of the Twos" takes a swing back toward RS-2.

Which is OK cause I really like the the idea of RS-2 also!

......and the banker says "You've got lots of time to decide....have fun!"

my latest purchase of the K701s has settled my search for a set with wonderful SQ and soundstage. i've heard the AKGs in a balanced configuration and that is what i'm ultimately shooting for. but to pair with the AKGs will be the RS-1s at some point. for me, those two will settle my headphone searching. i will then concentrate on source and amp. (actually, i've already got my heart set on building mapletree's ear+ purist kit. )

For the past 2 years I used the SR80. Am I correct that the 325i has less treble than the SR80?
Next: Don't know, still burning in the Sr325i
