Need help choosing a portable amp for ipod. budget unlimited

Hi, I once had a Total Airhead that went well with my Sennheiser HD25 and ipod. I really liked the "crossfeed" feature that the Total Airhead had, especially with tracks that had heavily panned instruments.

I was thinking of upgrading to a better portable amp, preferably with crossfeed. Price is not an issue for me. Any suggestions??

just letting you guys know, I listen to mostly jazz, hiphop, funk, and soul.

have you looked into the micro amp?

If the size matters then new Xin supermini and supermacro should be great choices. They both have crossfeed built in. If you don't want you options to be limited to Xin's amps, you may still be interested in Xin's external crossfeed adaptor which will work with any portable amp. Pete7 just posted his impression on Xinfeed adaptor yesterday and he seems to be happy with it.

oh

Thanks for your suggestions!

I have looked at both the micro and the xin amps and through my novice eyes I think they're pretty great amps. I've also looked at the Emmeline SR-71, which has gotten quite a reputation. Does the SR71 have crossfeed? any other amps that i should look at?

No, the SR71 does not have crossfeed. AFAIK, only the micro does.. You mght also want to look into a Headamp AE-1, La Rocco Pocket Reference or a portable PPA.

Here are some pics of all the portables at the so cal meet a few months back,

it will give you an idea of sizes, I personally prefer portable amps that use custom enclosures different from the typical hammond. IMO it sets it apart. I recall at the meet being very impressed with the sweet sound of the micro amp desktop module. The Hornet was a punchier and clean sounding. I didnt get much listening time with the other amps.

the Micro amp definately was one of the more musical portable amps Ive listened to. Though the largest, it incorporated gain, crossover. The micro amp enclosure is a bit different then the normal streamlined amps we usually see. Its something that would probably have to grow on me. In regards to sound the micro amp was really nice with my senns.

size doesnt matter to me however as I will be lugging my portable around with fill sized senn cans and probably thick cables. so my portable set up would be more transportable I guess.

the go vibe 3 is another option, its a quick punchy sounding amplifier

and theres also the Ae-1

which seems to find a mid point between warm and punchy.

As I type this I am listening to my HD600 being driven by an AE-1. It is so smooth and detailed that it simply takes me away. Good luck.
