It's my belief that preamps and headamps serve two different functions and thus preamps don't make good headamps and headamps don't make good preamps. Having said that, I haven't had the oportunity to audition a preamp equipped WA3 so I can't say for sure if the following is true, but I've got to believe that there is at least some sonic benefit to not having the extra preamp circuitry and switches for the signal to have to pass through, and in paralelling the input tubes I've got to believe that there's at least some sonic benefit to the extra power and lower impedence that paralelling offers.
