I did get confirmation that Tyll will be bringing both the K601 and K701 to the upcomming Boston and New York head-fi meets. There should be plenty of opinions after that.

Also, I was told that we're still on time for production delivery so we will hopefully be shipping in the first half of November.

Cheers,
Jamey
you think we will still be good for the nov 19th tampa meet?

i forgot to add team "in debt up to my eye balls"

but ya most of it i got really REALLY cheap or even free just cause every now and then i get lucky... the only two things ive ever paid regular price for are my HF-1's and the 701's... heck i got my K1000's for the same price as my HF-1's

my Audigy2 i got at cost when i worked at circuit city for like, 3 months, my behringer DAC i got at cost cause my ex (re: whore) worked at a guitarcenter until later she got caught stealing from the register and got fired (haha karma)

but ya anyway back to the point

I WANT MY 701's

I wish the K601 was about $50 cheaper, so it could compete directly with the DT-880 and HD-600. Unfortunately it's too late to the races, I'm getting a pair of DT880s (don't try to convince me otherwise, my mind is made up ). If Jan's price was closer to $225, I would really think about it but unfortunately it isn't.

What's the rush? Beyerdynamic may be updating their headphones anyway...

the DT880's are great cans... you should definately get a pair... then when the 601's and 701's drop from their intro price a bit, buy some of those too

Other than different impedences no one seems to know what the differences are between the 601 and 701... would someone from Headroom care to comment?

There are a few differences regarding specs and obviously color. It seems to me that most people are interested in how they actually sound. Today I talked to our friend at AKG and he told me that the first shipment to the US shipped from Vienna last Wednesday and they are now held up in customs. They're hopeful that they will arrive within a day or two and they will be shipping them overnight to us. Once we actually receive some, we'll let you know what we think. If they get here before Friday, Tyll will be taking them to the Boston meet. If they don't arrive by then, we'll ship a pair of each to him while he's on the road so that they can be heard at next weeks New York meet. I'm sure you'll hear plenty of opinions about them shortly after that.

Cheers,
Jamey

Good to hear , Can't wait for them to arrive!

OK, thanks. I too am mainly interested how they sound, but if there's a difference in materials and construction methods between the 601 and 701 then that certainly will have an influence on the sound, and that's why I was asking about the differences between the two, and I would think that with the $100 price difference between the two then there obviously must some sort of material/construction difference.
Oh well, I guess we'll just have to patiently wait until the first shipments come in.

Because the current DT880 is the acclaimed one, not some unknown future sound. Newer is not always better.
