Earmax Anniversary - Page 13

Very interesting!

I'm planning to start with the Tfk ECC801s at the center and Tfk E88CC on the sides.
Then swap the center for:

1) Sylvania 12at7 gold
2) Mullard 6201

and see what I prefer. These two should add a touch of warmth to the neutral Tfk E88CC.

What do you think?

WHat do you mean by totally confused on the Mullards? Which Mullards btw...

Neil,

Joe's Tube Lore has too much to read. Counterfeit issues. What to order. How much to spend. Too many good recommendations. Plus, I ran very low on money.

Maybe you should consider Amperex

Your right. I always try and do something ridiculous. Amperex it is.

I received a pair of TFK E88CC couple days ago. They don't work very well with any 12At7's I have in hand. They seems to need a powerful driver tube. Today, I order one TFK ECC801S and another super low noise golden match pair of TFK E88CC. Hopefully, everything will be fine.

It is said that the Amperex is neutral and featureless?
Who has had any experiences on the Amperex on EMP or AE?

I love to find a pair of Mullard CV4108, but I failed.

I tried the amperex 7308's on the A.e. I did not like the sound. I found it harsh and totally not to my tastes. But with the Melos amp I enjoy it. Maybe you would like this combo more than I.

Agreed when I owned a Melos the Amperex 7308's were my favorite tubes for it.

So, so far it looks like the Electro Harmonix win out? What do you guys think... oh and the Earmax Pro Stock tubes on the AE I hear too right?

It's the EH for me, not only in terms of sound quality, but I just love the fact it's current production and inexpensive. I also found that the Kimber Silver Streak works well in conjunction with these tubes for the EMP and DT880s (I've also tried AZ Wow, Silver Audio Hyacinth, Bogdan Silver Princess). The AZ Wow is also excellent with it, but it's just too bulky a cable for such a diminutive little amp. I also like the Kimber because it has the WBT plugs (black and gold) that matches the EMP nicely.

Remember guys, we are all different. With that in mind, stop, hold everything. Had a Care package arrive yesterday. Telefunkens. Changing my mind about the EHg dominance. Faster, more accurate, still liquid. I love this. Stay tuned.

Tube rollings on EMP AE finally lands in one telefunken 1950's ECC801s as driver and two telefunken CCa for the outputs. All these three tubes ordered from Tubeworld. High quality should be guaranteed. Some people say that tubeworld's tubes are pricy, nevertheless if you want the best sounding tubes you get to pay more. The price has positive relation of the quality. I personally recommend this vintage tube dealer. As for the sound, it is awesome both out of EMU 1616M or LB DA10 as sources. There is nothing more I could say about the sound. I am just simply amazed. I will keep this combo, maybe forever, as I could never find any deficiencies so far. I love the HD600 a little bit more than AD2000 out of this little monster. finally, Hope you guys who have the AE or the Pro or both would also enjoy your times on it.

I guess the US version may look much nicer than the UK below.
