FS: Rega Planar 3 Turntable w/ Rega Elys Cartridge, Creek OBH-8 Phono stage & OBH-2 high-grade power supply. Pick up in New York City Only. $600 firm.
This is the classic low end of the high end Rega turntable in mint condition, purchased new in 1998 and very lightly used. This is the model with the legendary RB300 tone arm sold by Rega until the introduction of the P3 in 2000 (google for the very slight differences between them; mainly the P3 comes in groovy colors). The Rega Elys cartridge has long been considered the most cost effective match for the RB300 arm. Mine was professionally mounted and calibrated in my home by the dealer and has not needed adjustment since (a Planar strong point). A quick google confirms that this combination blows away the Technics 1200 DJ turntable or the entry level Pro-ject, Sumiko, Music Hall, or Thorens tt's more readily available.
The Creek phono stage is equally celebrated. I invested in the upgrade power supply which greatly improves dynamic range, especially the bass.
The catches:
This is a manual turntable, like all audiophile tt's. It plays 33 and 45 rpm records, not 78's.
It must be picked up from me on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. I no longer have the packing materials and even if I did, I wouldn't want to ship it with the cartridge installed. If this turntable is transported carefully it will not require re-adjustment once you get it home.
It does not have a sprung suspension and thus must be placed on a solid surface such as any quality component rack or solid piece of furniture. I.e., it needs to be isolated from footfall vibration on a wooden floor.
PRICED TO SELL AT $600 cash or money order (firm) based on the following retail prices (these products are very seldom discounted).
Rega Planar 3: $700
Elys cartridge: $195
Creek OBH-8: $225
Creek OBH-2 High Grade External Power Supply: $100
Total cost new: $1220
