Is it safe to run european equipment (afaik 220V) with 240V?

Went to the Fry's today and got myself one of them `Heavy-Duty Step-up/Step-down Power Transformer` that can do 110->220 and vice-versa (they didn't have any transformers that take 120 as an input). And of course when I tested it at work, the output was 240V... So I'm wondering, is it safe? Anyone tried using European amps with such transformers in North America?

in australia we use 240v. i havent encountered any problems using european products as most products has input voltage 220-240v.

im curious if a transformer affects the quality of the sound especially for audio eq where psu is of such importance.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm curious about the transformer too, but again, given that the signal passes through at least a dozen transformers before coming here, I hope for the best. For the price, HP4 should have a decent regulated supply anyway.

Ah, just re-read the original Nik's for sale ad, and it states that the amp is 240V version. Should be safe then... I really-really hope .

zzz: I wouldn't expect any problems with that. As far as I know, the nominal voltage for GB is 240 V, anyway. For Germany it's 220 V, but in fact it's usually around 235 V.

What I have seen the voltage is normalised by EU regulations to 230V in the entire EU. We had 220V before in Sweden, but now it is 230V. I have measured 230V on my wall outlet. Should be the same in Germany. UK had 240V but should have turned it down a little bit. Not all countries may have implemented this yet.

I haven't tested but read that external transformers may interfere with sound quality.
