new BMW?

I'm dyin' to buy a new ride. In the last 6 yrs, I've bought 5 new cars. All of them have been toyotas (RAV4, Tacoma, Tundra, Highlander and 4Runner). 2 were my wife's, 3 were mine. Now am looking to buy something to replace my '04 4Runner LTD which only has 18k miles.
My main object of desire has been the BMW 330xi. It has AWD which I need here in the mountains but the wife is not really getting on board. I'd like to find a used one where I could lower my pmt and get into sthg w/ slightly less gas consumption.
Anyoneone have thoughts on my model of choice?
Other contenders are Audi A4, A6 or S4.
Maybe Volvo S60?
Thx,
CPW

The BMW 3-series is a great car--excellent safety, performance and smooth comfortable ride. It would be my pick from the choices that you listed; why settle for second best? My only caution is if your going to buy used try to find a certified pre-owned (2-yr/ 50k mile warranty std.). You'll thank yourself because of their pricey repair and maintenance costs.

Wow. That looks like a decent buy. Personally, I hate BMW's leatherette but still not a bad deal. My primary requirement is for AWD as I need to be able to transport my daughter safely on snow days.
Thanks for the link. I'll keep my eyes open for a good buy on a 5 series. Are they as fun to drive as the 3 series?

I'm an Audi Fan. Audi's Quattro system is far superior to anything BMW has. The A4 2.0T Quattro is my recommendation, but it is a bit pricey. There's a new Audi just around the corner you might want to consider - the A3 Quattro 2.0T that should be here december 2005. It's got the room, fuel economy and style to fit in with most lifestyles.

Other suggestions: With the new A6 out (Stellar Car!), the old A6 can be had for a very good price. Same with the Allroad Quattro.

You might also look at the S40 T5...

under no circumstances are you to buy the 325 bmw. otherwise the bmw 3-series is QUITE nice.

the 325 is quite a disapointment to a lot of people. the 328 slightly quicker, but still reasonably tame. very nice, what people think a bmw should be like. sort of like how bose works, but bose is the 325...

The S4 came with a V6? I always thought it came with a V8...

Did they change the clutch pedal stiffness in the S4? Last one I test drove a couple of years ago had such a stiff one, I'd hate to get stuck in a trafffic jam.

I had a 1968 BMW 1600 and a '73 2002 (which I kept for 13 years). Great cars and well before BMWs became German Buicks with the 300/500/700 series. I would suggest you look at the new Subaru Legacy GT. AWD, 5spd available, turbocharged intercooled 250hp 2.5 liter flat four. Serious practical fun.

That's because you pay for the service up front when you buy the car. It's added in to their already inflated price for what you get. I can't stand German makes and will never personally own one. They like to use state of the art electronics that have no history of long term use and it shows in their lack of reliability. Anyone that owns one outside of the warranty period is taking a huge gamble.

BMW = the most overrated and overpriced car company on the planet IMO

Second that!

Also check out X3 2.5 which are cheaper than the 3 series stationwagon all wheel drive with similar options. Not too crazy about Audis except S4.

Infiniti G35X should be a good candidate on your short list.
