Great job UPS...great job....

So I ordered a Parasound Halo P3 pre amp for my hi fi setup from a dealer in Texas. The unit ships out to me and is supposed to arrive yesterday. I check the tracking # yesterday after the UPS guy showed up without the pre amp and it stated that the packaged was "damaged during transit". Nice, only UPS can damage a triple boxed item. It said that they re-scheduled the delivery for today. Sounded wierd, they don't delivered the damaged package to me yesterday, but want to deliver it today, either way, its still damaged.
So I check the tracking number today, it gets better. The package isn't damaged anymore, its MISSING!! WTF!! How do you go from damaged to missing. Thats not even the good part, read this and tell me whats wrong:

MERCHANDISE IS MISSING. UPS WILL NOTIFY THE SENDER WITH ADDITIONAL DETAILS.;ALL MERCHANDISE MISSING, EMPTY CARTON WAS DISCARDED. UPS WILL NOTIFY THE SENDER WITH DETAILS OF THE DAMAGE

Empty Carton was discarded? What empty carton?

Sorry, had to vent. I called the place I bought it from, the person I was dealing with is at CEDIA right now, so we will resolve this when returns Monday.

This just sucks, been waiting all week for it and will probably end up waiting another couple weeks for it, great.

I had my fair share of complaints towards UPS yesterday when I was waiting on a new motherboard and stick of memory that I'd ordered about a week back. Took them forever to get the package to me, even stating the the delivery was scheduled for yesterday, and apparently they failed to deliver it cause I wasn't home... but I stay home all day yesterday to get the damn package!!! I called and fought a big with the UPS people, but like they give a rat's *****.

Anyways, I hope everything works out for you. I hope the UPS driver didn't steal it or something. Call them and fight the system.

Damn, sorry to hear about this. Sounds like UPS might of had the empty carton less contents and decided to also discard it. Hope you're able to resolve this with them and definitely phone UPS to voice your displeasure.

Same problems here. Packages late, missing, damaged...etc. All I get is "we're sorry". Just the other day our pickup guy came in and we had 8 boxes to go out. Should have known that the next sight I'd see was this idiot with 8 freaking boxes stacked up one on top of another. He got within 5 feet of the truck and lost the load. I asked if 15 feet was so far that he couldn't make two trips and all I got was "sorry, I'm behind schedule".

After multiple emails and calls with the same BS, I've decided to move my shipping over to FedEx. Enough is enough. With Fed, DHL and USPS, we've got options. Screw UPS. Lose enough business and maybe they'll get the message.

Bottom line....UPS SUCKS!!

I used to use UPS pretty regularly, but now with anything that has lots of transistors and especially a power supply with a transformer, you gotta use Fedex express. They don't throw around the boxes and drop them like its nothing like UPS. Headphones are okay with UPS, but amps that have tons of parts your better off with fedex express.

Absolutely. My amp went out via UPS but is heading back home via FedEx. Took some time but eventually we all learn.

Sorry, I had to edit the truth out.

I don't dislike UPS, but I'm not partial to them either. The guy that delivers in my area is pretty cool, and sometimes even asks me at what times I'm available, as not to miss me.

On the other hand, there are two or more drivers in my area now, and they aren't as forgiving. I had a situation where the driver threw my package around so carelessly that the video card in one of the computers I recently bought was just laying in the case completely disconnected from the agp slot, and surely damaged. Thankfully it didn't damage any of the other components, but I was now down $300 then (it was a 6800GT). To my luck, however, the seller was amazingly considerate and gave me a partial refund

I still greatly prefer USPS and Fedex over UPS. Both deliver much quicker and I've never had any problems with them

Sorry, but I HATE this attitude. It's a pet peeve of mine. Everyone I've known who's worked for UPS has given me the pretty same story as you've given here: don't expect us to treat your package with any kind of care. UPS workers off-handedly joke about how they throw packages around with impunity.

It's clear that the entire culture inside UPS is rotten. The company obviously places no importance on giving packages a minimum standard of care. Here we even have a manager at UPS confirming this.

I've never had any problems with UPS, but, as wodgy said, that is absolutely disgusting.

There's no excuse for negligence. UPS workers can take their frustrations out on their employers, not OUR packages.

Maybe I'm lucky because our UPS guy is really cool and knows us well. He never throws crap around, either. I'd hate to have a disgruntled delivery man.

I wish Cosmopragma would go on record here, with his real name, official job title at UPS, and contact information. At least in Canada, small claims court judges are fairly good at giving awards when companies provide a product or service that does not meet rational standards of merchantability and fitness. (For example, automakers are regularly held liable for paint repairs if the paint starts to peel within the first 11 years of ownership.) Having a UPS manager on the record saying that we shouldn't expect packages to be treated in a fit manner would make it that much easier to get awards in small claims court when UPS breaks things and won't pay up.

I'm sure there are less painful ways of getting fired.

I know. My post was rhetorical.

UPS wants to have their cake and eat it too. They want to cut costs by treating packages without care, but they also want to never have to pay for the consequences of that policy when they break things, reflexively blaming the consumer as a matter of policy. I just find overt, cynical confessions of this, like Cosmoprama's, really disgusting.
