Haha. Or (D) Phil had to go back to work after racing to the mall, then home to take the nano out of the box and get pics, and then race off to work.

Like I said in another post, Apple chose the nano name before Creative used the Zen Nano Plus name, and thus Apple didn't want to make new boxes for new promotional bags for the Apple Store that are so think it only fits the nano and maybe a dock.

Return of the fingerprint magnet. The Apple Store had black and white nanos on display, only for a few hours since it arrived, and already the demo units (on the back counter, you have to ask to see it, they don't have it tethered like everything else yet) had scratches and scuffs. On the black one, it looked like somewhat dropped it or ran it face down over a table.


iPod photo 30GB (the thin photo version), iPod mini, iPod nano. It's thinner than the headphone jack for my Senn MX400 earbuds and probably most other earbuds with a generic 90 degree L jack. Double the thicknes as some want to incrase the battery life I think is too thick, but a few millimeters thicker would have been nice so the unit can sit flat on it's back or front without leaning on the headphone plug.

To answer some questions:

- Transfer speed is fast enough, or in other words about the speed of the iPod mini. It's fast enough for me not to care to test the speed.

- I put the nano in the dock for the 3rd gen iPod and the line-out isn't adjustable. It's constant like other iPods. Maybe you have to buy the special nano dock? I have no need for it.

- I still don't like the headphone jack on the bottom. I put the nano upside down in my pocket like you're supposed to (design-wise it makes sense), but when I try to take it out of my pockets (I wear jeans, not baggy) I end up touching the wheel with my palm and the volume jumps all over the place. So I don't think it's practical for people like me who will never ever in a million years wear any device around my biceps, neck, or belt. With the jack on the top, my palm touches the top half of the iPod and so I don't accidentally change the volume.

- The combination feature is stupid. What's the point? It's not button lock. You can only play/pause when engaged. It's still in effect if you reset the nano or when you put it into a dock (the one I have), contrary to what iPodlounge said.

- The touch wheel is a tad too sensitive, maybe because it's so small.

- Sound quality - I used to care, but now not so much because I plan on using my nano with just Senn earbuds. Nevertheless, it sounds good and loud with Senn HD600 headphones, and on the Senn earbuds as well. I can't tell much of a difference between it and my other iPods.

It's only 0.5mm wider than 4.5 mint chocolates, and has about the same thickness
