Long involved story....
I sold my Zen Micro to my roommate after a month because I was dropping out of grad school and didn't really need to use an mp3 player that much, less than 30 minutes a day. So I got an iPod shuffle thinking it would suffice. That lasted a month too, it is/was a useless device for me. I went back to the iPod mini (got a 2nd gen 6GB, I had a 1st gen 4GB mini before selling it for the Zen Micro) because I was flying all over the country on med school interviews, 7 interviews in an 8 week period. A few months later, I got a Creative Zen Nano Plus 1GB flash for the gym. It was ok, but even with a screen it wasn't that useful and 1GB was too little and I got tired of hearing the same songs over and over. Then I got into med school, but decided to defer for a year while I'm still young (just turned 22 recently), so I got a real job as a biochemist that pays well enough. The iPod nano came out, so I returned the Nano Plus (Walmart has a crazy 90-day return policy, which I didn't know about until I wanted to return the Zen Nano Plus) and got the two nanos instead.
Finally, last week my roommate told me his Zen Micro no longer works, probably a broken hard drive, but he's too stupid and lazy to send it in for warranty service, he's a useless blob like that. My brother had a 4GB mini 1st gen, and his hard drive broke after 15 months, so the hard drive problem isn't just on Creative's player.
