I'd mainly be using it to play music (via a PowerBook) but also occassionally for tv and video games as well. I'd like it to be loud enough to fill a room about 12'x7'. It doesn't have to sound extremely good: what I like about the Athenas and T-Amp is that they sound good for their price. It would be nice if I could later use the speakers/sub for a surround sound set-up, but that's probably the least important thing. So, what do you guys think? Would T-Amp+Athenas+Some sub fit into the price range? Thanks again for all your help.
There is a dayton 10" sub on parts express that is $99.98, the athenas for $100-120, and a t-amp for $30-40?. Thats your best/only real option.

I was going to mention the Dayton sub, but I didn't realize it's now just $100.00.

Forget the sub, the bass will piss off your neighbors and you wont be able to use it a lot. Get the Athena's and wait for this:

or get a cheap sherwood receiver. I like the sound from the t-amp but to it was only good for a small room. When I put it in the living room (18x12) it had no impact.
