Need help locating a laptop carry case....

Hey guys, I'm in need of a carrying case for Dell Inspiron XPS-Gen 2 Notebook. The thing is a beast with a 17" monitor. Dell's offerings leave me less than excited. Any sites that carry a good product line that might have one that my laptop will fit? Any help or links greatly appreciated.

my sister bought me a carry case from www.booqbags.com. its expensive, but the quality is very nice, i mean, the bag itself weighs 6lbs! i got one for my 15" powerbook, but i think they make one for the 17" model that might work with your dell.
brenthaven makes nice bags, and samsonite has some nice ones also.

Thanks. They didn't have one listed that would work with my XPS but I sent them the email through their "help pick it" page so maybe they'll email me with some options. If not, I guess I'm gonna go with that butt ugly Dell backpack. Just a bit too old for a backpack!!

Thanks again. Anyone else??

You should check out the brenthaven bags designed for the 17" powerbooks...

Also, crumpler has some bags designed for large laptops.

http://www.targus.com

I opted for a backpack, IMHO much more practical than the usual laptop bag, plus hides the fact that you're carrying a maybe multi thousand $ piece of electronic gear.

I'm a self confessed bag nut, always looking for the best laptop solution I can find. I've had quite a number of different bags including Booq, Tumi, Swiss Army, Brenthaven, Waterfield, and RoadWired. Out of all of them I would suggest either the RoadWired (www.roadwired.com) MegaMedia bag or the Waterfield (www.sfbags.com) cargo bag. I bought the Waterfield bag for my 17" Powerbook and I think the MegaMedia bag will fit a 17" laptop as well. Both of those bags have the highest quality construction I've seen and I am very hard on my bags.

Good luck with your choice.

check out tom bihn

I would highly recommend anyone to check out Tom Bihn's stuff (www.tombihn.com ). I bought a brain cell and empire builder at the beginning of the summer and have been extremely impressed. Great build quality and amazing protection for the lappy.

So if you could pick one and one only which would you go with and why? The MegaMedia looks like I could carry a ton of stuff in it and that appeals to me. I can see a portable rig sharing a home with my laptop while on the road! Definite appeal. Yet, you chose the cargo...how come?

Well, you know what Dell puts on their backpack....."XPS". Granted some may not know what that means but anyone looking to steal it certainly will. Sometimes folks take advertising way too far.

A certain contender! Thanks.

my uncle gave me a banana republic shoulder bag (flapped) as a gift years ago, the materials and zippers are very high quality. try the mall to check places like banana republic, gap or macy's for a nice bag, there is probibly a good selection now since back-to-school is going on.

this bag doesnt have any external brand marking on it to draw attention. the outside is a waterproof synthetic canvas-like material. it doesnt have a handle like a briefcase, i need to use the shoulder strap to carry it, i dont think it really suggests there is a computer inside. alot of students use this type of bag just for books.
