CD3000 recabling

I am trying to get my CD3000 with a broken plug fixed. Upgrading cables might be a good idea, I thought, but not sure if it is going to be worth the time and money. My main phones are HD-650, and I am quite pleased with that. The last thing I remember about the two phones is I preferred the senns, but my memory is quite unclear. Does anyone have experience with recabling his CD3000? Wondering if the difference is going to be as dramatic as on senns. Back when I had the CD3000 I had to do some heavy EQing to tame the highs to make it bearable; after EQing it sounded fine, however.

Best upgrade to a pair of cd3000s that needs work anyway is to throw a pair of good drivers in them (k1000, joe grado drivers, ps1s). The cd3000s are great vehicles for other projects.

sounds fun, but wouldnt that change the sonic signature completely? The end result could no longer be called CD3000 then, and it would be like getting a completely different set of cans. Besides, I figure the cost would be waaay over my budget. My poor wallet
