Is it a computer "subwoofer" (did it come with computer speakers)? Computer subwoofers are usually crossed pretty high -- between 150 Hz and 200 Hz -- and have a fair amount of localizable harmonic distortion, so your best bet is to place it on your desk, between your two speakers, as far back close to the wall as possible. If you can shift your desk around so it straddles a corner of the room, that would also help with the above arrangement.

If it's a regular subwoofer, cross it at 80 Hz or lower and try it in a corner first, since that excites all the room modes. Alternatively, place the subwoofer in your listening position, then walk around the room and find the place where the bass is most even. Move the subwoofer to the place you are standing.

It's impossible to get completely uniform bass in any reasonable room. There will always be nulls and places where the bass is reinforced. However, if you follow the above tips, you'll do about as well as you can do.

Yeah man corners work wonders. In my dorm room it's facing up against the wall and sounds awesome, but if you get in the beds and put your head against the wall it's like being in a freaking sound competition car, it's so loud it's the only thing you can hear.

A bit technical, but these Harman Kardon pdfs have lots of valuable info. For subwoofer placement you should check the third one:

well my dad wont let me move my desk since we are trying to sell the house and want to make the room look bigger... . i tried just putting it in the corner anyways. i dont feel or hear a difference. do i make it actually face the corner or just put it facing opposite the corner.

If you can move the sub but can't move your seat, the best bet is to put the sub on your seat and move around the room until you find where the bass sounds full to you and then plop your sub there. Not ideal, but we all have different limitations in placement.

Might want to consider that your head should be at sub height when testing
