We can get angry now at the trouble makers, the lack of help, the lack of prevention in so many areas. But the only thing anyone can do now is try to help as best as possible. All other energy you put into it is wasted energy at the moment.
When the emergengy is over it's time to get angry at what could have been done better. Time to learn what needs to be done to prevent this happening again.

My hearts goes out to all affected and to every single person in the US for such a tragedy happening in your country.
That is NO excuse... they are acting like animals! Looting the dead for jewlery and steeling electronics have nothing to do with survival and firing at those trying to bring relief is anti-survival...hello?

As has been reported by many reliable sources:

the vast majority of looting is for food and water.

If you listen to the mayor's webcast he talks about the theft of other goods and produces a very reasonable explanation.

It would appear this thread is now deteriorating into a political discussion, with members wanting to blame and point fingers at politicians and government organizations ... contrary to our no politics rule. Since we are now becoming armchair quarterbacks repeating info and accusations all of us can easily find on the news broadcasts, there's no point in starting arguments and bad feelings here....especially since they will do absolutely nothing to help the situation the people along the gulf coast are dealing with

If you wish to help with a financial donation to the relief efforts, a sticky at the top of the forum can direct you to various charities. If you have any additional information that can help these people, contact a moderator with it and we'll try to have it posted.

But as of now, this thread will unfortunately be closed.
