Anyone know what the sound signature compares to, bright/dark, etc. and if they're any good.

Ohhh, you've come to the wrong place, just mentioning these speakers is considered flame-bait by a lot of people here... whyever. I'd say the HKIIs are rather not bright, but it all depends upon how you set them up. You can change the volume of the bass on the subwoofer, but bass it will always be on the noticable side. IMVHO these are fine speakers for a computer setup (great for games) or any "fun" listening application. Not a serious audiophile product, but pleasant sounding. AFAIK you can get them below $100 in the US which makes them an even sweeter deal.

Pro:
- HK milks an amazing amount of volume & bass out of very little power, very efficient, perfect for blasting smaller/mid-sized rooms
- very elegant & reduced, great for minimalist setups
- build quality is fine
- adjustable bass
- fun sound

Con:
- no treble setting
- cannot be turned off unless you pull the plug
- may pick up a hum if your source is noisy
- satellites lack the blue illumination of the sub
- fun sound

too much bass... even when the nob is all the way to low? you need to hear logitechs then

they're not audiophile of course, at their price range being computer speakers... but out of computer speakers, wouldn't you say these are good. Least muffled maybe?

To me, they are about the sweetest 2.1 deal for the given application out there.

Not very good in my book, especially for the price. I've never liked the sound - very lacking and thin. Lacking midrange and lacking bass extension and output.

what do you prefer then?

For $100, you won't find better. It's not great if you compare to stereo speakers, but compared to most computer speakers, the HKs sound great.

See ya

Try and see if you can find the Promedia 2.1 or maybe the Altec Lansing mx5021 for around the $100 mark. Go used even.

sometimes these convey a much better, significantly different musical reproduction than my headphone system (emu0404>corda ha1mk2>senn580/grado225)

Just out of a laptop, headphone out! Not necessarily praising specifically harmonkardon2's, but maybe speakers in general

WTF
