I'd build the audio room of brick or stone with floating walls, floors and ceilings. I'd be jealous if he did his exactly the way I wanted to do mine and had it done cheaper. I'm really only jealous when somebody gets a better deal than me. That hurts.

Those floors look good but it's what we call a "box floor". I'd have all my floors milled on-site with really trick layouts and unique designs. After you've seen a really nice custom floor, you'll never forget it.
My mother is a really good interior designer, I have seen some really custom floors, our halls and bathrooms have all custom cut stones in this crazy pattern, i'll post some pictures if your curious... Yet, our livingroom has that "box" style wood, and it looks like a picture of the floor, the planks are longer tough, and i do remember them cutting the wood by hand, yet all to the apropriate lengthes, they didn't look stained and polished until afterwards.... Why do you know those to be out ofa box rather then on site? Just curious.

Do you like stones alot? I think over done marble look a bit gawdy, but my mom does custom patterns and uses alot of earthy looking sandstone type tiles, you gotta see a shot of my parents bathroom it's pretty nuts (took 4 months to build by one guy).

I love the look of the wood because it's very understated, it's classy yet not pretentious the way marble looks to me. I like marble accents, but not entire marble floors, unless it's tony montona's mansion.

Hey i'll throw this picture in, the wood reminded me of our livingroom floor...
I think for the audio setup it looks perfect (especially since the area is wooded where speakers are while the rest is carpeted)

I really like wood floors and get a kick out of some of the better layouts and designs. I consider the better ones artwork and as I said,if I was to replicate his budget,I'd certainly do a custom floor.

Hey tubes any chance you can sneak me in that garage?..lol

I have the dream of doing something like this when I have the money and my own space!! (rite now I only have my bedroom and a small budget, in which I think I made somewhat of a improvement on). I would do better outlining acoustics thru out the room, the room would be perfectly flat freq wise (either know thats impossible). I wouldnt store the vinyl or cds in the same room (either know they are great for room acoustics)..with that money you should have seperate rooms for the storage of your music. Not sure about custom floors but I sure as hell wouldnt do all that he did and after all that throw a small rug on the floor just like he did..dont get me wrong but man if your going threw all that work on the room itself you should by no way need the rug afterwards!

Instead of the drop can lights I would do a full L.E.D. lighting (same style as the drop cans he has now) with full dmx-512 control and a Martin Light Jockey with remote monitor/p.c. access...this way you can not only dim the lights but have any color any time and also the led's last longer and give off way less heat!

Dont get me wrong in any way But the truth is I adore and am inspired by the sure beauty of that room!..I would be honored to ever come close to it let alone listening in the room...

I always liked natural woods.

Anyone notice that with all the money he was able to spend, that he picked the Emm Labs Meitner DAC and transport? It is the best sounding combo that I have ever heard.
Also, that Rockport turntable is 5 year old technology, but it's still his turntable of choice.

And how about his view? Mountains in the back!! Sweeet! I think before I go through lusting his gear, I'll simply begin my panting at his collection. The music...I bet he has some stunners, those 45's I bet are worth a mint!

I'm not jealous, but I would love a system like that!

i dont think the haters are giving this guy enough credit... im sure he auditioned an incredible amount of gear to find synergy in his system. if his $40,000 speaker cables could have ben replaced by rat shack cables then he might have found a compromise somewhere in between.

i have a feeling his $100,000 worth of cabling is well thought out, and maybe in his eyes "excessive" would have been spending 5x that on "botique " cables that may not have met his cost/benefit goals

That room reminds me of Transparent Audio reference room. First thing I thought when looking at the sweet spot, what is just one chair doing there???? Also, with a really large amount of money, why not going for a larger room. The best acoustics are found with much larger rooms with the right dimensions. For the sake of optimal acoustics, I think it is rather small, particularly given the money put into it.

,snip.

First, I _admire_ this project as an example of one individual's quest for something that will make him happy - regardless of cost, which is, of course, only relevant to him and what _(s)he_ can afford.

I have a 35' x 22' unfinished space I would love to turn into a media room, and at standard per square foot finish rates (what I think I could get a lot of the basics of this room for), I'd consider that $60k an excellent addition to the value of my house, especially since many new homes in the Dallas area (in my price range) now have dedicated media rooms. This design is an EXCELLENT 'Brainstorming' start to approach a contractor about what I WANT, then I can compromise down when the budget realities hit home (read: when my wife gives her, uh, 'input').

Do you guys know of any other pictures of super-high en stereo systems like this one? There was a link earlier in this thread with about a guy with million dollar speakers, but the link doesn't work.

We each have our vice. If I was a multi-millionaire I would still be driving my Toyota truck, but my stereo would be able to be seen from space! To each his own.

I wonder if that guy has his gear insured....

Because one thing that would suck so bad it's beyond not funny would be a fire or any sort of disaster in that room .
