PS-1 or RS-1 - Page 2

The PS-1s are much better headphones and they're only available for a limited time. Just say YES!

ok, no one can relate to me, or nearly agree with me yet....

alessandro ms2i w/ recable, and don't get a gilmore amp, get something with tubes like a ppx3 slam. I was kind of surprised how much i liked it.

controlled bass, not nearly as plentiful as ps1, but damn well controlled, more so then any rs1 i've heard personally. Balanced, more balanced then any other john grado headphone i've been exposed to (all of them). It had oodles of high end extension, smooth, yet not overly analyitcal.. Also, the sound stage, not like normal grados, maybe i ahven't heard recabled ps1s, but man, these guys got a sound stage, i listen to alot of electronic music, and though i wouldn't nearly claim sennhesier levels of channel seperation, you will turn your shoulder and sometimes freakout level sound stage...

They have authentic grado sound, added percision with the recabling, percise and fluid... The tubes will make everything so juicy and smooth, fluid controlled, extended... Very authentic grado.

Oh yea, and this definatley meets your 1700 dollar budget. The ms2i recable is a great value. They are great with dance music and electronic stuff. Yet, also for progressive and classic rock.. I hope you give the upgrade a consideration.

Now this is different. For my ipod I will only use the ps-1's. It is my fave ipod phone.

Dunno about amps, but I prefer the RS-1 to the PS-1 (at least out of Ray Samuels' Raptor! ). Plus, like everyone said, the PS-1 is much rarer and more expensive.

Ah-ha, you switched back. I really liked the PS-1 with the Ipod too.

I think your comparision between the RS-1 and PS-1 in post 7 was very accurate and even handed.

It appears that the PS-1 has the majority thus far. My card is going to be smoken!

I voted RS1 because of the gilmore lite you said you'd get with the ps1...I'd say ps1 over rs1 any day tho, it's more rare, limited production, and will play at least down to 10hz (i tested).

Well, what amp would you prefer for $300?

After hearing how badly the PS-1 clipped and distorted with certain dynamic songs, I'd stay away from those overpriced exported, reimported phones.

Upgrade your source, but if you spend over $1000 on a DAC, the MS-2's are going to be the bottleneck in your system.

So, yeah, don't rule out the used market. And be sure to listen to the RS-1's and PS-1's in person before making a final decision if you can.

PS-1 and use the remainder for a Eastsound cd-5 source. The total will be a few hundred more than your bud but over a 5 year peiod that is nothing.

He does not wish to use a CDP.

I highly suggest using the VDA-1 + VAC-1 DAC combo, regardless of what headphone you end up buying.

I haven't heard anything like this with my set...
