Best Clip-On Phones

Thread Starter
Hi Guys,

I am after a set of clip on phones for my MP3 player. I don't want buds or canalphones.

What are the best clip on phones out there in your opinion? I want something with great bass response, excellent clarity and also the best comfort.

I also want something that looks good. A lot of these clip ons look a bit goofy...

Welcome your thoughts!!!

well, a good clip-on for cheap is the koss ksc-75 ($20)and ksc-35 ($20-$40). The latter is better looking IMO, but less comfortable. But don't give it a big deal, I've had girls spontaneously rip weird-looking phones off my ears just to hear what I was listening to. I thought the 75s were unnattractive, but I assure, no one really cares about how your headphone looks. Unless you're wearing bose triports, then all the ladies will rush you!

The Koss' are very good sound quality (and their cheap) but they arent the prettiest headphones. I suggest you go to Audiocubes (one of the sponsors at the top) and look at audio technic buds. their the prettiest things out there but their pricey

ksc75 sounds great, and i don't think it looks bad at all. it can be had for around $20 at circuit city, and maybe cheaper online.

I just bought the KSC75s from Circuit City today....last pair they had.

They're awesome!! I don't know anything about headphones and sound quality, but they're definitely comfortable and I noticed how crappy my 128kbps MP3s were. I had to wait 'til I got home and listened to a CD to truly appreciate them.

I compared them to iPod buds, and an MDR-V300 my friends had lyin' around....the KSC75 sounded better. Simply amazing to me.

I don't think they look all that bad to me...that metal bar at the top is kinda outta place...but I wouldn't call it unattractive.

KSC75 = PERFECT CLIPON...even tho I haven't had too many to compare to. You certainly won't be disappointed with these $15-20 cans, tho.

Hi guys, may i just add the Audio Technica ATH-EM7 into the option? i used to hear good comments about these phones. I'll let you guys comment about these clip ons. But for budget wise, i do think the Koss ksc-75 is the best solution given the quality.

Afew people on these forums own a pair, look around and maybe you can find their impressions. Last I checked the general concensus on these was that there was no bass (but they are pretty)

If you can I'd read into them befor you buy them and see if their sonic signature meets your tastes

the audio-technica clip-ons are gorgeous, no doubt about it. I've tried the em7, em9 and the fancy ew9's, and while look and comfort are top notch, they really lacked low end. Just read some of the reviews on audiocubes, for the most part they mirror my opinion. I haven't had the chance to try the ksc75 or ksc35's, but they get endless praise around here. I don't know anything about the lower end audio technica clipons... those could be an option too.

I purchased the new ATH-EQ77 clipons ($4x.00) from a fellow head-fi member, and I can honestly say that the 75/35 beats them in terms of sound quality. They're comfortable and feature a very cool retractable cord design though (the short-length AND the neck cord retract). I'm probably going to burn them in first, and do further comparison later. The upfront and non-fatiguing presentation of the Koss clipons is hard to beat in my book though.

If you simply want the best sound, then the ATH-EW9 is it as far as clip-on's go. But it needs to be amped in order for the the bass to come alive.

KSC75 is the only other clip-on that I've tried and it's also great. It sounds as good, if not better in some ways, than my MDR-E888LP earbuds which cost 2-3 times more. If bass is a concern, the KSC75 will deliver. For the price, KSC75 is hard to beat.

i'm more fickle than i'd like to admit, but the KSC-35 has been in my portable rig for over a year now, and if the little pins didn't pluck otu somewhere, i'd still keep these forever! as it is, i'm still going to tough it out until something better comes along (which hasn't yet - maybe the SR40 in december will be it!)

just another vote for the KSC75... Till John unleashes the Grado street style.

Gshan-Glad to hear you are happy with your newly purchased ATH-EQ77. I look forward to reading more about them. Any chance of a full review w/pics? I'm curious to see/read more about the retract, bulky/cumbersome at all?

I can probably do a mini review with photos. Not really sure about the sound yet, but I can compare with 35. The retract is not cumbersome at all - eq77s have the thinnest cords that I have ever seen.
